Before we begin, we must clarify that we do not condone or promote drug usage in any form. That being said, weed is probably the least harmful drug one can use. With countries around the world legalising cannabis, it’s about time the stigma around grass vanishes up in smoke. Yes, not every weed smoker is a stoner and does not go on to commit heinous crimes. Also, not every “fact” you’ve heard about the king kush is true. As a matter of fact, most commonly held beliefs around marijuana are unsubstantiated. Here are 7 common myths about weed that you should stop believing in right away!

1) Marijuana is a gateway drug

It is often believed that once you start doing weed, you end up in an endless loop of drugs and alcohol abuse. While there is a correlation between use of marijuana and other drugs, scientifically it hasn’t been proven that weed makes one vulnerable towards using other drugs.

2) Weed is addictive

While many weed smokers tend to smoke it regularly and make it into a habit, it is technically not possible to be addicted to it. Science has proven that weed doesn’t get you hooked on it like “harder” drugs– we are talking the likes of cocaine and meth. At best, you might enjoy it like you enjoy your morning cup of tea. You like it, but your functioning isn’t impaired without it.

3) You can get high by eating weed off the plant

Not really. In countries like Burma, weed grows in plenty in the wild and animals feed on it without getting high (of course). Marijuana has to be heated and combined with a fatty substance and then consumed orally for any effect. Eating the plant will just leave a bad taste in your mouth.

4) Smoking pot is more dangerous than smoking cigarettes

On the contrary, smoking pot is far less harmful. First of all, there are less of dangerous chemicals involved. But more importantly, unlike a chain smoker who is likely to smoke a pack or more in a day, a pot smoker will smoke a lot less. That said, it is dangerous nonetheless.

5) Marijuana will make you lose your memories

Short-term memories, yes. But surprisingly, it's been scientifically proven that weed doesn’t affect your existing memories, nor does it cause long-term memory loss or memory-related diseases like dementia.

6) You can overdose of weed

While on other hard drugs you can, it isn’t possible to OD on marijuana. You would have to take almost 40,000 times the regular dose of weed all at once in order to theoretically die of a marijuana overdose.

7) Marijuana can give you man boobs

This one is probably the biggest weed-related myth. We don’t know how this one came about and why it caught on but no, weed smoking does not cause or lead to gynecomastia!

There you have it. Seven of the biggest marijuana-related myths debunked. Now you can smoke on that reefer peacefully!

I love food like any other person and believe in the philosophy of living to eat. But like most people, I don’t really bother knowing about what I put in my belly. So long as it tastes good, it’s all fine. But one day, while waiting for my food to arrive, I got curious about what I eat (or in this particular case, what I was about to eat) and managed to unearth some pretty dope facts about food I eat everyday and as it turns out, I know very little about them. Here are 17 facts about food I had no clue of and I bet you didn’t either. To put it simply, everything we know about food is a lie. Prepare to have your mind blown.

1) Yes, there was a time when we were all one in the same. Thank God for evolution!

2) Scientifically speaking, so are brinjals, grapes and oranges.

3) That’s because people think of berries as a small fruit that can be picked off plants, but that’s
not the case.

4) Yes, an average potato is about 80% water and 20% solids. That’s not the case when you deep
fry them and turn them into fries. Fries are the best.

5) That doesn’t sound appetizing at all. I’m not sure if I’d ever want to have a lollipop again.

6) Apple seeds contain amygdalin, a substance that releases cyanide into the blood stream when chewed and digested. And to think they say, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”!

7) They belong to the same family as cherries, plums and peaches, which is called prunus. I don’t think I trust fruits anymore.

8) That’s because our sense of smell and taste alters with altitude. No wonder meals on flights
mostly suck!

9) It literally has nothing to do with Hawaii!

10) And they grow underground. Yikes!

11) Is that why the pack is mostly air?

12) It is just a fabricated story that caught on overtime.

13) Researches show that newborns prefer sweet items over salty, bitter and sour tasting things.

14) And all along, I thought they grew on trees.

15) The combination of acidity, lack of water, and the presence of hydrogen peroxide in a sealed
bottle gives it an eternal shelf life.

16) It was a mutant strain in 17 th century that turned them orange-red. Imagine, purple halwa made out of gajar.

17) That red velvet cake will never taste the same.

Oh well, it’s not like I am going to stop eating red velvet cake. And neither should you!

India won its independence from the clutches of British back in 1947, but unfortunately, Indians’ colonial hangover has lasted forever. Being able to speak in English is still considered a big deal and many feel that being fluent in the Queen’s language is a sure shot ticket to success. But alas, languages can be tricky and master one that isn’t your mother tongue isn’t everyone’s cup of chai. However, try we must. Here are 25 Indians who tried real hard and yet, miserably failed at English. But in the process of it all, left us ROFL-ing. Read on, laugh on.

1) “Baggers” better beware!

2) That must have been some unsightly scene!

3) Is it a “plane”? Is it a “paint”? No, it’s just terrible English!

4) I wonder where he got his “low” degree from?

5) A missing apostrophe can take you from “Anu’s” to something rather unpleasant.

6) I don’t think he/she should be running English coaching classes.

7) That might lead to a lawsuit.

8) That’s not a fair trade.

9) Don’t be “animals type” and use a loo instead.

10) You can get a haircut and a chilled beer here.

11) Speaking of chilled beer.

12) What do you call a friend who doesn’t share his beer? An “alcohole”!

13) Head here if you want to look “buty-ful”.

14) Why’d someone want to take a bath there?

15) Or who’d want a “cum” bath?

16) If you’re looking for a little “action”, you know where to go.

17) No “lalas” allowed here!

18) Interested in a quick “ficial” followed by death?

19) Someone call the child services!

20) Stop cutting children, for God’s sake!

21) Horrible!

22) Rs. 15 isn’t a bad deal though, if you’re desperate for one.

23) That’ll leave a bad taste in your mouth for sure.

24) For all you “psychos” out there.

25) Not a bad deal but definitely illegal.

That was phunny, no? Time for you to tag all you’re frands on this!

I love taxi hailing apps like Uber and Ola. For someone who doesn’t like driving, doesn’t own a car and parties hard (thrice a week, at least), I can’t imagine life without these guys. As a matter of fact, thanks to them I don’t even remember the last time I bickered with an auto driver or begged one to “go by the meter, bhaiya!” But like everything in life, these apps also come with a pinch of salt and I am not talking the God awful surge pricing. I am referring to the often inadvertently hilarious cab drivers and their logic defying antics. Here are 10 times when Uber and Ola drivers gave us serious humor goals at no extra fare!

1. The time when this lucky rider had a “near death experience”

2) I wonder how this guy’s conversation went when he called the driver:
“Hanji, Jhantu ji kahan
ho?”

3) That time when Uber sent a submarine to pick this rider up.

4) When these two Ubers got it on, right in the middle of the street.

5) When this rider took the most expensive Ola ride ever and then probably died of a stroke right after.

6) When this guy drove all the way from Bangalore to North Korea in an Ola. Well, not really, but he still got charged for it!

7) This Uber driver seems to be a total brainiac!

8) This Ola driver is not for you if you’re lactose intolerant.

9) And finally this Uber driver who summed up my entire life.

Thanks Uber and Ola, for driving us around and keeping us entertained! Can we talk about that surge pricing though?

We live in a world where all thanks to the Internet and social media, anonymity is practically impossible. A few clicks and you can unearth details about virtually anyone. But things haven’t always been that way. History is witness to many unsolved mysteries and unrecognised faces. Over the years, some of these people and their faces have become inseparable elements of our past, and yet, despite the best efforts of historians, we are yet to ascertain their identities. Some of these people are famous, and probably still living. And yet, ironically, unknown. Here’s a look at 7 unidentified famous people from history in no particular order.

1) The Tank Man

This photo from the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989 has become the icon of pro-democracy protests. It depicts a courageous young man standing fearlessly before a troop of tanks, refusing to budge. He even tried climbing a tank, protesting against what was wrong. No one knows who he was or what happened to him.

2) The last Jew in Vinnitsa

What happened during the holocaust and its aftermath is devastating beyond doubt. Yet this photograph of a Jewish man’s execution in the Ukranian town of Vinnytsia is probably the most chilling. The photograph was taken moments before this man was shot dead and shows him sitting helplessly as he surrenders to the same fate as numerous of his kin whose bodies are piled in the mass grave before of him. Though he remains unidentified, he became the face of the helpless Jewish agony.

3) Beethoven’s Lady Love

Probably the greatest musician to have ever lived, Beethoven and his legacy still lives on. But one thing that people can’t help but wonder about was the recipient of a love letter from him which was discovered after his death. The 10-page long love letter is addressed to his ‘immortal beloved’ whose identity is never revealed and was never found or confirmed.

4) The lady in the Scarf

The was a witness to the notorious assassination of US President John F. Kennedy in 1963 as she stood close to his cavalcade taking photographs on a fateful day. Soon after JFK was shot, the surrounding crowd ran for cover, fearing further gunshots and yet, this woman stood unfazed, as if nothing happened, before disappearing into the crowd. While there are many conspiracy theories around her, no one ever confirmed her identity and she came to be known as ‘the lady in the scarf’.

5) The Hiroshima Steps Shadow

Another tragedy and another unknown victim. The 1945 nuclear bombing by US on Japan killed numerous people but one person no one can seem to forget is the man who was burnt to death within a fraction of a second in Hiroshima. The surface of the surrounding stone steps was turned whitish by the intense heat rays. The place where the person was sitting became dark making it appear like a shadow.

6) The Falling Man

A chilling reminder of the destruction humankind inflicts upon itself, the photograph of ‘the falling man’ is probably the most recent on our list. Among the top 100 influential photos ever taken by Time Magazine, this photograph shows a man plunging to his death to escape the fire caused in one of the twin towers on 9/11. The unidentified man in the haunting photograph appears to have accepted his fate and that’s why it’s so heart-breaking.

7) The vulture and the little girl

In 1993, photojournalist Kevin Carter took a devastating photograph in Sudan, a poor African country which was in the grips of horrific poverty and famine because of an ongoing civil war. The photo was that of an emaciated young girl as she crawled her way to a feeding centre. What made it more heartbreaking was the ominous vulture looming in the background. The sight was the personification of human plight and when the photo was printed, thousands came forward to help the little girl who was actually a famine stricken boy. While Carter confirmed that the child made it to the feeding centre, no one knows what happened to him. The photo won a Pulitzer Prize in 1994 despite Carter receiving criticism for exploiting the situation for his own gain. The backlash led the already troubled photojournalist to commit suicide later that year.

A list both heart breaking and full of hope, this reminds us of moments in history that can never be forgotten and the people who lived (and sometimes died) witnessing them.

Marijuana, one of the most popular mind-altering drugs around the world, has a long and interesting history. Earliest documented references of this herb date back as early to 500 BC when it was used for medicinal purposes. Over the years, marijuana grew mainstream as a recreational drug, consumed in various forms by weed enthusiasts worldwide.

Political forces made this once legal drug, illegal in many countries. They say history is made up of big events. The rise and fall of dynasties. Wars that wiped out millions. And so much more. But interestingly, history as we know it would’ve been completely different if certain small incidents didn’t take place. After all, if it weren’t for these oversights and sleights of luck, we might have been living in a different world altogether! But just as it is, here are 10 small mistakes that proved to be the biggest blunders. Some led to extinction of rare species while others changed the course of history altogether. Read on and be amazed.

1. Ming, an ocean quahog from the species Arctica islandica, was 507 years old when the researchers cracked it’s shell open, killing it in the process.

2. US presidential candidate acknowledged that America created and funded Al-Qaeda as a terrorist organization during the glory days of the Soviet-Afghan war. It was this very Al Qaeda that carried out the notorious 9/11 attack and forced US into a nasty war with Iraq that technically still hasn’t ended.

3. Galileo who is now universally recognized as the “father of observational astronomy”, the “father of modern physics”, and the “father of the scientific method”, died an unfortunate death under house arrest for challenging the church’s idea of an earth-centric universe. It took about another century for most of the scientists to acknowledge that Galileo was right all along!

4. After Prithvi Raj Chauhan defeated Ghori in the battle of Tahrain, he forgave the enemy as he begged for mercy. This was a huge blunder which India had to repent for centuries. Following his defeat, Ghori attacked Delhi again in 1192 and held Chauhan captive and killed him mercilessly. The victory of Ghori settled the future course of Indian history, ending the imperial power of Chauhans and ushered in an era of senseless slaughter and destruction of scared monuments and temples.

5. Private Henry Tandey, a decorated British soldier serving near the French village of Marcoing, reportedly encountered a German soldier and declined to shoot him during World War I. Little did he know that he was sparing the life of then 29-year-old Lance Corporal Adolf Hitler. “That man came so near to killing me that I thought I should never see Germany again,” Hitler is alleged to have said. Had it not been for Private Henry’s mercy, the world would never have seen the most ruthless and savage dictator in the form of Adolf Hitler.

6. Oil is Alaska’s most valuable natural resource. It has the largest oil field in North America. But it was the onslaught of British rule and the fear of losing it to them at no cost that forced Russia, the then ruler of Alaska to its erstwhile ally, US, at a petty cost of $7.2 million. Ironically,  US was not willing to buy up this land at first. But for the sake of traditional goodwill between the two countries, finally agreed, Today, Alaksa is a prized possession for America, not only for its abundant natural resources but also tourism.

7. In 1998, Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin had approached Yahoo, with an opportunity to buy its PageRank system for as little as $1 million. The duo wanted to focus on their studies at Stanford, but Yahoo showed no interest as it wanted users to spend more time on its own platform. Ironically, Yahoo had another opportunity to acquire Google. In 2002, Yahoo’s CEO at the time entered in negotiations to acquire Google but the company was unwilling to cough up $5 billion’s asking price. Bet Yahoo is kicking itself now, as its current market value stands at a mere $32 billion, while Google is a whopping $763 billion!

8. Can you imagine Hitler as an artist instead of a brutal dictator? Well, a young Hitler wanted to be an artist but was denied admission by the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. The denial forced Hitler to join the military in World War I and his experience in the military drastically shaped his views. Had he been accepted in an art school, the world would have never seen the biggest genocide ever in the form of the Holocaust.

9. The notorious East India Company’s ships first arrived in India, at the port of Surat, back in 1608. In 1615, their representatives reached the court of then Mughal Emperor, Jahangir as the emissary of King James I, to arrange for a commercial treaty and subsequently, gained for the British the right to establish a factory at Surat. What followed was first a complete trade monopoly and then the colonization of India that ended the Mughal imperial rule altogether.

10. It wasn’t the Apple or Microsoft (or even IBM for that matter) that heralded the world changing era of personal computing. It was actually the Xerox, a name we associate only with photocopiers. Almost a decade before the first Mac hit the stores, Xerox created what they called Xerox Alto in 1973. The machine, complete with a screen, a keyboard, a mouse, and a graphical interface, was a lot like a modern day computer. But Xerox didn’t care much about the invention and continued focusing on photocopiers instead. And in the process, dug it’s own grave.

They could be called the silliest mistakes, but after reading about them, we can only conclude that what’s meant to be is meant to be.

Some may call these reasons brave acts of feminism, while others may label them ‘stupid’. Either way, here are 11 ‘interesting’ reasons why these Indian brides called-off their wedding. A Bangalore based girl rejected an ‘excellent good-looking and well off guy because he failed to understand her love for dogs and wouldn’t allow her to keep one after marriage.

Looks like the loyal furry friend did come to her rescue here.

2.No toilet? No wedding!
A woman agreed to marry a man in Kanpur only if he built a toilet in his home by the wedding date. When he failed to do so, this high school graduate called off the wedding.

She later went on to marry another man who had a toilet in his home.

3.Fair, beautiful, tall bride needed… (Or not)
Two Agra-based sisters called off their wedding at the last hour because their grooms looked apparently darker and older than they did in their pictures. These women saw their grooms for the first time on the wedding day.

Well, photoshop spoiled it for the men this time.

4. Can you add? No? Cancel the wedding!
21-year-old, class 12-pass, on finding out about her would-be being illiterate, asked him what 15 added to six was. After much thinking, the man (23-year-old) answered, ‘Seventeen’.

The wrong answer made the girl call off the wedding.

5.Groom fails to bow, bride walks off
Like in many Hindu weddings, friends of this unfortunate groom playfully lifted him way too high during the garland exchange ceremony. The bride made three attempts to garland him, failing which she walked off the stage and refused to get married to him.

Never go too high.

6.Chicken Biryani breaks off a wedding
The bride’s family sent 30 kg Chicken Biryani as a gift to the groom’s family, unaware of them being vegetarian. When the issue was blown out of proportion on the wedding day, the bride decided to call-off the wedding.

Poor chicken got killed in vain.

7. Forced by groom to dance on item song, bride calls-off wedding
After being repeatedly forced to dance on an item song, this bride from Firozabad threw away her garland in disgust and walked away from the stage at her wedding.

She is not an item girl dude.

8.Bride refuses to nude selfie and the wedding
After being engaged, the groom pestered the bride to send him a nude selfie. After constant refusal from the bride, he threatened cancellation of the wedding and asked for rupees three lakh as dowry amount.

Obliging to his request the girl not only called off the wedding but also handed him to the police.

9.Relationship Modi-fied to nil
A couple called-off their wedding after the two got into a heated discussion about the Prime Minister’s economic policy. The bride held Modi responsible for the economic slowdown, while the businessman groom thought otherwise.

Well…

10.Groom’s closeness to bhabhi enrages bride’s family
The groom’s bhabhi kissed him just before the garland ceremony and later danced with him on the dance floor. As the two matched each other’s steps, the bride’s family got furious and called off the wedding.

Kyunki bhabhi ji ghar par hai!

11.Not enough lights to continue with wedding
After the groom’s side demanded for better lighting during the garland ceremony, and the bride’s family refused, a massive fight broke out between the groom and his would-be father-in-law.

The bride’s family refused to get their daughter married in a family that can create such a ruckus for ‘lights’.

We’re sure some of them made you laugh, while some made you proud of the nation’s daughters. The commonality between all these decisions were nothing but the small voice in their hearts that told them it wouldn’t work and they agreed to listen to it. Time we took our decisions not on what people would think, but based on that little voice of conviction in our hearts.
