While Arijit Singh started his career in the Hindi film industry with the reality TV show Fame Gurukul in 2005, it wasn’t until the early 2010s that he was finally able to leave a mark as a singer in Bollywood. Born to a Sikh father and a Bengali mother in West Bengal who belonged to what can be only described as an intensely musical family, Arijit started showing promise as an artist at a very early age. From his own admission, while he was a decent student, he was always much more interested in music. Consequently, his parents took notice and decided to give him professional training. He was trained in classical music, pop music, and Rabindra Sangeet. Additionally, he was also taught to play the Tabla.
After his stint at Fame Gurukul, from which he was eliminated at the 6th position, he was noticed by some producers in the industry, and he even recorded some projects with them, but these projects never took off. But instead of losing hope, a young Arijit moved to Mumbai and started a career in freelancing for music directors including Pritam, who gave him his first big break. While Arijit did deliver some hit numbers between 2011 and 2012, it really was the 2013 movie Aashiqui 2 that solidified his career in the industry.
