15 Best Hollywood Movies of 2021 We Loved Watching, and You’d Too!

While 2020 was an absolute trainwreck for most kinds of cinema around the world, 2021 was much, much better, THANK GOD! Most of the stalled projects were able to wrap up, and even though theatres are still not as packed as they used to be, hey, at least they’re open. Unlike last year, we actually had a wide variety of releases in Hollywood this year – with even big (and expensive) players like Marvel having multiple releases. Here are our picks for the 15 best Hollywood movies of 2021!

1. Cruella

One of the most awaited Disney live-action movies, Cruella is the origin story of Cruella de Vil, who’s introduced to the viewer as Estella, a gifted woman who wants to make a name for herself in the fashion world, She partners with a pair of thieves who, like her, have a knack for mischief. However, Estella’s darker side soon comes to the fore once she befriends Baroness von Hellman, a legendary fashion icon.

2. The Father

As a father ages into a senile old man and refuses any kind of assistance from his daughter, he begins to lose his mind as well as his grip on his reality. The movie won Anthony Hopkins the Best Actor award at the 93rd Oscars. 

3. Black Widow

While Marvel bid adieu to Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Endgame, viewers got to see Johanson play Romanoff for one final time in a standalone movie fans had been waiting for for the longest time. While Black Widow is not the first standalone female superhero movie by Marvel, it was easily one of the most awaited ones.

4. Venom: Let There be Carnage

In this second instalment of Venom, we find Eddie Brock struggling to cope with his dual identities before he finds out that a dangerous serial killer has also become host to an alien symbiote, and must be handled at all costs. 

5. The Eternals

The Eternals are a warrior race with superhuman powers who have lived on Earth for several thousand years in secret. When a race of evil humanoids, the deviants, begin to threaten Earth, The Eternals have to reunite and fight back. 

6. House of Gucci

A retelling of a sensational high-profile contract-murder that shook the world, House of Gucci, starring lady Gaga, Jared Leto and Adam Driver in primary roles, follows Patrizia Reggiani, a socialite who marries into the wealthy Gucci family of Italy.

7. Spencer

Following Diana, Princess of Wales, Spencer offers a peek into the loveless marriage between Diana and Prince Charles of England, who must put aside all resentment for the Christmas festivities with the Queen and the rest of the family.

8. West Side Story

Based on the famous Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet, and a remake of the 1961 film of the same name, West Side Story follows Tony, who falls in love with Maria at first sight. As luck would have it though, they belong to rival gangs fighting for control of the streets.

9. Raya and the Last Dragon

A prosperous land called Kumandra is attacked by the Druun, evil spirits that turn people and dragons to stone. Sisu, the last dragon, embeds all her power into a gem, and defeats the Druun, thus reviving the people but not the dragons. Once revived, the people of Kumandra bicker amongst themselves for the gem, and form five separate tribes. Five hundred years later, Raya, the daughter of a tribe chief, sets out to track down Sisu, wanting to bring unity back to the Kumandran people. 

10. Nomadland

The Academy Award winner for Best Picture (2021), Nomadland follows Fern, a woman in her sixties who loses everything after the great recession, including her husband, who has died. She sets upon a journey through the American West, living in a van, as a nomad.

11. Palm Springs

Nyles and Sarah bond during a wedding in Palm Springs and sneak off to a nearby desert to have sex. Nyles is then shot by an arrow by an attacker, and takes cover in a cave, asking Sarah to not follow him. Sarah, however, doesn’t pay heed and follows, and Myles tells her that they’re both stuck in a time loop. The couple then live a carefree life for a number of days, always stuck in a loop, that resets every time they sleep or die, and in the process, develop feelings for each other. 

12. Dune

Paul Atreides, a gifted young man, must embark upon an adventurous yet dangerous journey to a foreign planet in order to ensure the safety of his family and his race. With exclusive supply of a life-changing resource, various groups erupt into conflict over its ownership. 

13. Spiderman: No Way Home

After the events of Spider-Man: Far from Home, the world now knows all about Peter Parker, causing his friends and family great difficulties. A guilt-ridden Peter then approaches Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would make the world forget that he’s Spider-Man. However, because of his own back and forth, Doctor Strange ends up casting a spell with several holes, and various enemies from the older Spider-Man movies find their way to Peter’s world. With a lot of excitement around the project and some truly great reviews from fans as well as critics, No Way Home was easily one of the biggest and best Hollywood movies of 2021.

14. No Time to Die

For his last stint as James Bond, Daniel Craig stars in No Time To Die as the iconic agent who’s enjoying a peaceful stay at Jamaica after retiring. However, his peace is cut short when his friend from the CIA, Felix Leiter, shows up at his door and asks for help rescuing a treacherous kidnapped scientist.

15. Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

After running from home away from his father, Xu Wenwu, who runs a gang, Shang Chi lives a rather normal life in San Francisco. However, his past soon catches up with him.
