One of the most unique romantic comedies I have seen in a while. It plays on the genre tropes similar to rom-coms, with one big twist. The couple is trapped in a time loop.

The original Swedish film is streaming on Hulu. A 12-year-old boy strikes up a friendship with his new neighbour, the mysterious Eli. It soon becomes apparent that she is no ordinary young girl.

A documentary exposing the horrifying mass executions of accused communists in Indonesia and those who are celebrated in their country for perpetrating the crime.

5. Once Upon a Time in The West

You can catch Sergio Leone’s masterpiece on Hulu. It is about a widow who hires an outlaw and a mysterious man to protect her land from a ruthless cattleman.

6. Nomadland

You must have heard about Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland. It got a lot of attention after it won the best picture Academy Award. After the company Fern works for shuts down, she gives up her home and starts life on the road as a nomad.

This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen. The chemistry between Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe is amazing. It follows two detectives (Gosling and Crowe) as they are paired together to solve a mystery in the 70s Los Angeles.

8. If Beale Street Could Talk

Adapted from the novel of the same name, If Beale Street Could Talk is a film about childhood sweethearts Tish and Fonny, whose life is ripped apart after Fonny is falsely accused of rape.

9. Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Undoubtedly one of the best movies on Hulu. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is one of my favourite films. It follows two women, as they fall in love with each other in 18th century France.

10. Silence

This is Martin Scorsese’s most underrated work. Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield are amazing in this film. Two Catholic priests travel to Japan in search of Father Ferreira.

   

11. Shoplifters

The world knew about Hirokazu Koreeda after Shoplifters won the Palme d’Or. Koreeda has been making terrific movies since his debut with Maborosi. This film challenges the concept of family as it is seen by society.

12. The Assistant

A college graduate lands her dream job as an assistant to an entertainment mogul. As her days pass doing ordinary work, she becomes increasingly aware of the abuse that seeps into every aspect of her workday.

13. Booksmart

Before graduation, Amy and Molly realise they have been cast aside as bookworms. They decide to let everything loose and make up for the lost time.

14. Parasite

There’s nothing more to say about Parasite is there? It became a global phenomenon after sweeping nearly every award out there. The Kim family devises a way to work for the wealthy Park family and start living a parasitic life.

One of the best body horrors I have seen in recent times. It is directed by Brandon Cronenberg. It is about an elite assassin who uses brain implant technology to control other people’s bodies and carry out high-profile assassinations.

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the movie tells the story of a former thief, who sets out to prove his innocence when he is wrongly accused of thievery.

Featuring one of the best performances in Margot Robbie’s career to date, I, Tonya is a biographical film about Tonya Harding.

Kristen Stewart was definitely robbed of an Oscar for her performance as Princess Diana in Pablo Larrain’s Spencer. Another person who was robbed of an Oscar was Jonny Greenwood, the composer of this film’s soundtrack.
