How the World of Online Gaming is Changing

Video games and online gaming might not strictly be anything new but most people will agree that they have evolved massively over recent years. One thing that has recently increased in popularity is the need for games to offer a more interactive and immersive experience. Gamers definitely want more than just sitting behind a computer screen and gaming on their own. We first saw this type of gaming increase in popularity with Second Life in the 2000s and although the popularity of that did die down, that sort of interactive social media platform is making a comeback in the shape of the metaverse.

The Rise in Popularity of Virtual Reality

Virtual realistic headsets may have been around for a while, but it is in recent years that they have increased in popularity. The launch of metaverse has definitely helped, with $1 billion being spent on Meta’s Oculus Quest store. Of course, some industries have been taking advantage of this type of technology in their own way for a number of years with the online casino industry leading the way.

Interactive Gaming

For a number of years now online casinos such as Fair Go Casino have offered live casino games. This allows players to have a more interactive experience, rather than one where they feel like they are playing online. Live casino games come in a range of formats but it could be via a chat room setting with other players or with a live video dealing your hand. Of course, the online casino industry could very well make its move into the metaverse soon too – it has certainly been an industry keen to lead the way with technology so far.

The Future of Online Gaming

Whether it’s an online casino, your daily game of Wordle or a fight at the battle royale, there is no denying that online gaming will continue to change and evolve. Metaverse is likely to take up a big part of the technology changes, but things like loot boxes and microtransactions are going to play their part in shaping the gaming industry over the coming months too. That said, with the way technology is progressing online gaming could be very different in 5 years & realistically none of us really know what technology is coming so it’s hard to accurately predict what online gaming will look like in the future. What we do know is that live casinos, buying art in the metaverse and being involved in virtual reality are proving massively popular and will be around for a while yet.
