Weddings are glamorous affairs, especially for the elite around the world. It is often seen as an opportunity to display one’s wealth and how well-connected one is. Some people’s guest lists may include only the bride, groom, and immediate families while others invite thousands of people including international politicians like Hillary Clinton! (Ambani wedding). 1. Anand Piramal and Isha Ambani (700 crores) 

Taking place in three different locations, the wedding of the highly influential businessman and daughter of one of the richest Indian men turned eyes to its budget and guest list. Hillary Clinton, former First Lady of the US, a number of A-List celebrities, cricketers, politicians, you name it! The performances of the night included one by Beyonce and a recorded rendition of the Gayatri mantra by the late musical legend Lata Mangeshkar!

2. Sushanto and Seemanto Roy (554 crores) 

Businessman and founder of Sahara India Pariwar, Subrata Roy, decided to conduct both his sons’ weddings at the same event. As a result, one could obviously expect the kind of glitz and glamour that would accompany the combined wedding. Sushanto and  Seemanto Roy’s weddings had Sabyasachi-designed outfits and golf carts to ferry the guests to the location. Coupled with the attendance of tens of thousands of guests all the way from Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to Kapil Dev, to the Bachchans, of course, these weddings will be remembered for a long.


3. Brahmani and Rajeev Reddy (550 crores) 

The wedding of mining baron and former politician Janardhan Reddy’s only daughter garnered attention for many reasons. Firstly, it was impossible not to since it was more than grand. However, it invited criticizing glares from a lot of the general public. The expensive 550 crore affair that included wedding invitation cards with LCD screens would surely have garnered attention notwithstanding the timing. Additionally, the fact that it took place in 2016, in the midst of demonetisation shocked many. Despite that, the wedding took place in Bengaluru’s palace grounds, with the attendance of politicians,  celebrities, and business tycoons alike and outfits and jewellery worth thousands of crores.

4. Srishti Mittal and Gulraj Behl (500 crores) 

The wedding of Pramod Mittal’s daughter, the younger brother of Lakshmi Mittal, took place in Barcelona, Spain. Compared to a number of other expensive Indian weddings, the guest list was more stringent and required them to sign a confidentiality agreement. Additionally, fine attention to detail was maintained. This includes 200 butlers and cooks flown from India and Thailand to the wedding location, and the attendance of stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Kylie Minogue, etc.


5. Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia (240 crores) 

In 2004, steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal’s daughter got married in style (and expense!) in Paris, France. At the time, it was one of the most expensive Indian weddings. Today, it still makes people do a double take when the cost of the entire affair is taken into account.  This wedding saw no less grandeur than any of the others in the list. The guest list included a range of celebrities like Farah Khan, Akshay Kumar, etc. and the location of the wedding was a 17th-century castle Vaux-le Vicomte. There was also a special fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower gardens.

 

   

6. Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria (250 crores) 

In 2011, Congress leader Kanwar Singh Tanwar’s son and former MLA Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria’s daughter got hitched. Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria tied the knot in a fancy wedding set-up that saw the attendance of over 30,000 guests, including VIPs and common folk. The groom was supposedly gifted a helicopter! Other details of the wedding include over 100 vegetarian dishes, 12 giant screens to televise the wedding, and the arrival of the groom in a BMW.

 

7. Sonam Vaswani and Navin Fabiani (210 crores) 

The hashtag #SoNavSoFab marked the wedding of Sonam Vaswani and Navin  Fabiani which took place in Vienna, Austria. Daughter of Stallion Group’s Indian-Nigerian billionaire businessman Sunil Vaswani, she undoubtedly saw that no stone was left unturned at her wedding. Her outfits were designed by celebrity designer Manish Malhotra, and the wedding was attended by multiple celebrities and business families. It also included a performance by singer Bruno Mars. 


8. Adel Sajan and Sana Khan (200 crores) 

Billionaire Adel Sajan, director of Danube Group, and the dentist turned-model Sana Khan are high-school sweethearts who tied the knot in 2017, and how! Their wedding was inspired by the Bollywood film Dil Dhadakne Do and was not restricted to a single destination. Instead, it took place on the cruise liner Costa Fascinosa, with around  1500 guests that included close friends and family of the couple. The guests were treated to Harrods hampers as well, upon arrival.

9. Sanjay Hinduja and Anusuya Mahtani (140 crores) 

Sanjay Hinduja, of the Hinduja group, married his long-time partner and fashion designer Anusuya Mahtani in a grand expensive wedding that took place in Udaipur, at  Jagmandir Island Palace. Manish Malhotra’s designer outfits enriched the couple’s appearance, and the wedding festivities included performances by Bollywood stars and Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez.

 

10. Vineeta Agarwal and Muqit Teja (130 crores) 

Billionaire Pramod  Agarwal’s daughter’s wedding took place in Venice, Italy. It was bound to be a star-studded fancy affair, given that the San Clemente Palace was the wedding location and over 800 guests were in attendance. Furthermore, Michelin star chefs were responsible for the banquet and Hollywood singer Shakira was one of the performers at the wedding.
