15 Most Overrated Bollywood Movies That You May Pass Over

There are more forgettable movies in Bollywood than good ones. Good ones are rare, and they rarely get any recognition from the mainstream audience. I wish it changes. I wish the taste of our film audience evolves. Here is the list of the 15 most overrated Bollywood movies.

1. Ek Tha Tiger (To be honest, most of Salman Khan’s films)

Salman Khan has an audience of his own, who will see anything that “Bhai” is in. A RAW agent goes on a mission and falls in love with a woman who turns out to be an ISI agent. If the premise seems interesting, let me tell you, the movie isn’t.

2. Chennai Express

Making a commercial movie is not a child’s play. Commercial directors are skilled in their way. Rohit Shetty is probably the best example, giving box office hits with each new release. Chennai Express is fun to watch. The songs are good. But like any other Rohit Shetty film, it is forgettable.

3. Om Shanti Om

I remember, as a kid, I was obsessed with this one. The idea of rebirth in cinema intrigued me. That is before I discovered movies from other countries. But after a few years, I found it to be extremely unrealistic, which it is.

4. Don 2

Contrary to what you may believe, I have nothing against SRK. I liked Swades, Chak De India. It is just the kind of movies he chooses to do, is that bugs me every time. I feel SRK’s acting prowess hasn’t been tapped into properly. Don 2 had a great theatrical run, as most of his movies do. It was even dubbed a masterpiece by the audience. I refuse to accept that. The Godfather part I and II are masterpieces, Goodfellas is a masterpiece, and Don 2 isn’t.

5. Dabangg

Another film which stars Salman Khan. Dabangg is amongst Salman Khan’s most overrated Bollywood movies This movie was directed by Anurag Kashyap’s brother Abhinav Kashyap. It is interesting to see two family members two kinds of movies that are polar opposite in their aesthetics. Dabbang was a box office success, that’s why they decided to make a series out of it.

6. Pyaar ka Punchnama

Pyaar Ka Punchnama is a light-hearted comedy, but I just didn’t get the comedy. It also tries to depict modern relationships in a different light but ends up generalising. Not every relationship is like that. Neither are the people involved in it.

7. Ashiqui 2

When it came out, I saw it and didn’t like it. A few years later I gave it a re-watch. Didn’t like it. Even the songs start to lose some of their charm after listening to them so many times.

8. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

I still don’t understand the hype around this one. After 9 years since its release, people are still talking about it. It is everywhere, memes, reels, shorts. It’s a pretty average movie. And is forgettable.

9. Student of the Year 2

Let’s not talk too much about this. Except that this film was a box office success. This film.

10. Baaghi

Baaghi has Tiger Shroff, who I am not a big fan of. I started watching this film on TV and quickly decided not to waste my time on this one.

11. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham

Being a massive success at the box office, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham had enough melodrama to appeal to the Indian audience.

12. Kabir Singh

Let me say, it is extremely scary that a misogynistic, male chauvinist character like Kabir Singh is glorified in a movie, which did not receive the criticisms it deserves. Rather, the audience started romanticizing it. The box office collections of this movie and the reviews by the audience speak a whole lot about our country.

13. DDLJ

Again, I am not against SRK. This movie is a landmark in Indian Cinema. I get it. I appreciate it. But let’s just get over it. Let’s get over it and accept the fact that it is not that much of a great film.

14. Sanju

The story of Sanjay Dutt was sanitised and few of his crimes were justified. I like watching Rajkumar Hirani’s films, even though I find all of them overrated to some degree. But they are always a good watch. Sanju was an exception.

15. Padmaavat

If Sanjay Leela Bhansali has something to contribute to Indian Cinema, it is his grand sets and production designs. As far as filmmaking is concerned. He is pretty basic. Padmaavat was a forgettable experience, unlike Baajirao Mastani, which I believe is his best of the collaborations with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
