Due to dangerous pathways that come along harsh weather, the ideal time to take a road trip through Leh to Manali highway is from June to September. If you are traveling by car, it will take at least two days with enough rest stops.
Usually, during May, the Leh-Manali Highway starts getting cleared. If Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is to be believed then the opening date of the Leh- Manali highway in 2023 is on May 1st.
The highway is not open all year round. This is because the roads between the Baralacha La and the Rohtang Pass, which connect Keylong and the Rohtang Pass, are frequently covered in a thick layer of snow.

This year’s average snowfall of 20 to 30 feet was only about 5 feet, so it won’t take as long to clear the path and open the gates of Rohtang into the Lahaul Valley and the city of Leh until the end of April. Significantly, 1999, 2000, and 2001 were the most recent three years in which this occurred.
Typically, the BRO begins clearing the ice in March, with operations, wrapping up in May and the gates opening to the public by the end of May or the beginning of June.
