Cillian Murphy who plays the lead role in the upcoming movie Oppenheimer talked about reading the Hindu sacred text Bhagavad Gita in a recent interview. He read it to prepare for his role as, interestingly, Oppenheimer, the father of the Atomic bomb, was inspired by the Bhagavad Gita. According to Murphy, he thought Bhagavad Gita was an absolutely beautiful text and he found it inspiring. He went on to say that Gita might have been a consolation to Oppenheimer as he needed it and it provided him a lot of consolation all his life.
When asked about his learnings from Bhagavad Gita, Cillian joked saying, “Well don’t grill me on it!” The actor then added, “I just found it very beautiful.”

Who was Oppenheimer?
Robert J Oppenheimer is considered the “Father of the Atomic bomb” for his contributions to the Manhattan Project during World War II. He is famously known to have quoted a line from Bhagavad Gita “Now I have become death, destroyer of the worlds” after the successful Trinity Test.
