2022 has largely been the year of South Indian cinema up till this point. The Bollywood vs South Indian movies argument is at its height because of blockbuster successes like Vikram, KGF 2, RRR, and Pushpa. 1. Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga

Starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej and Ketika Sharma, ‘Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga’ is a Telugu romance film. After an incident, two childhood friends grow to loathe one another; this dislike lasts until adulthood. When they choose to reconcile and enroll in the same medical college, their feelings for one another slowly grow. 

2. RRR

A crafted story of two fabled revolutionaries’ time spent away from home before they began fighting for their nation. The story, set in 1920, focuses on the unrecorded time of their life when both revolutionaries choose to live in obscurity before waging war for their nation. ‘RRR’ was a huge box office hit and received favorable reviews. In addition to Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in cameo roles from Bollywood, the film also features Ram Charan and Jr. NTR as independence warriors.

3. Jana Gana Mana

Popular Central University professor Saba Mariam is brutally raped, killed, and then set ablaze. Four people burn the body, as seen by a lone man who meets with an accident close to the scene of this horrific act. The Central University students launch a significant demonstration in response to their outrage at the horrible crime committed against one of their beloved professors. The situation quickly spirals out of control, and the government decides to send ACP Sajjan Kumar, a highly decorated officer, in to crack the case and catch the offenders.

4. Vaashi

Starring Tovino Thomas and Keerthy Suresh, ‘Vaashi’ is a Malayalam romantic film. When two ambitious attorneys find themselves on opposing sides of a crucial case, they are forced to deal with personal issues outside of the courtroom. The story begins slowly, and the director gives enough time to the characters for us to familiarize with them and understand them. 

5. Major

Directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, ‘Major’ is a biopic based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He was martyred during the 26/11 Mumbai attack, the film is a tribute to him and his heroic deeds. The movie showcases the life of Indian Army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan is detailed in this biopic, from his early years to the heroic deeds he performed in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

   

6. Beast

Terrorists captured a shopping mall in Chennai and took the customers hostage. A former RAW officer, Veera Raghavan also trapped in the mall decides to save the people by killing the terrorists. He must thwart their intentions and stop the government from releasing a notorious terrorist whom he helped put in prison at tremendous personal cost.

7. CBI 5: The Brain

The city is experiencing a string of homicides. A team of CBI officers led by officer Sethurama Iyer take on the inquiry after the police are unable to solve the crime. The CBI series hides the real offenders in its storylines through a maze of lies, false suspicions, and more, so you won’t have the pleasure of coming to your own simple conclusions while watching it.

8. Hey Sinamika 

‘Hey Sinamika’ is a Tamil rom-com, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Aditi Rao Hydari and Kajal Aggarwal. The movie is a remake of an Argentine film ‘A Boyfriend For A Wife’ released in 2008. Unhappy Mouna plans to get rid of her chatty husband, Yaazhan and hires therapist Malarvizhi to court him. But when romance blossoms between them, she finds herself in a difficult situation.

9. Natchathiram Nagargirathu

The drama reaches new heights when caste and sexuality norms start to collide when a mismatched theater group decides to present a play about love. According to critics, ‘the film’s blend of various themes, including love, caste, honor killings, and music gives off a very new-age vibe, making it an experience that shouldn’t be missed.’

10. Don

Directed and written by Cibi Chakaravarthi, ‘Don’ is a coming of age film.  The story of the movie centers on a reluctant engineering student who struggles to find his passion in life and establish his eligibility in front of his father. He frequently disagrees with the discipline mentor at his college.
