What Do We Know About The Peaky Blinders Movie

The end of Peaky Blinders as we know it finally came at the beginning of April, as the sixth and final television series brought the curtain down on that chapter of the Steven Knight gangster drama.

However, this isn’t the end of the Peaky Blinders, as a movie is already in the works, and WeLoveBrum.co.uk have already speculated as to what we could see happen in the film itself. But, what do we know about the film at this point when it comes to the potential plot and characters that could be involved?

When Will The Peaky Blinders Movie Be Released?

There is no word yet when the Peaky Blinders movie could be hitting the big screen. The series recently came to an end in the United Kingdom on the BBC on April 3rd, and the entire series will be released on Netflix worldwide in June.

Steven Knight told an audience at the BFI London Film Festival that the film will wrap up this chapter of the Peaky Blinders story. It has been muted that production could possibly begin in 2023, but we would be surprised to see the film hit the big screen before 2025.

Who Will Reprise Their Roles?

Knight has already admitted that Cillian Murphy will return to reprise his role as Tommy Shelby. Tommy’s involvement in the film looked sketchy going into the final episode of the series, but his realisation that he wasn’t dying and that the fascists were attempting to persuade him he was sick to take his own life dawned on him in the final moments. The film wouldn’t be the same without Tommy’s iconic one-liners.

Paul Anderson will also return to play Arthur, while Sophie Rundle’s Ada and Neil Maskell’s Winston Churchill are also likely to be key political characters as we edge nearer to World War 2. Sam Clafin and Amber Anderson are also expected to be key characters as they reprise their roles as Oswald Mosley and Lady Diana Mitford.

What Will Be The Plot?

The film is likely to centre on Tommy’s ambition to stop Oswald and the fascist movement in Britain before the Second World War. A teaser for that was seen in the final moments of the final episode, as Tommy released that his personal doctor was on the payroll of Mosley and his movement. The picture that he saw of the doctor was from Mosley and Mitford’s wedding, which took place in Germany, and was also attended by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Goebbels.

That means both Nazi Germany historical figures are likely to be cast in the final outing of the Peaky Blinders. However, it will be interesting to see how the story plays out given that Knight will be unable to alter the historical fact that a Second World War did happen.

Which Characters Will Be Missing?

It’s unlikely that all the cast from the television series will be returning. One character that we could have seen the last of is Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons. The London gangster was part of Tommy’s plan to take down Michael, and Tommy handed over the area of US previously owned by Jack Nelson. It has also been reported that younger Peaky members Finn and Duke won’t be involved in the film, as their story could be the focus of a spin-off television series.
