People Are Ordering Food From ONDC Instead of Swiggy & Zomato. Is It Cheaper?
The talk of the town and Twitter is heavily dominated by ONDC these days. Social media users cannot stop themselves from admiring the platform ever since its launch last year. And the reason is that they get to order good food at cheap rates that are further discounted. If it fits your budget, it fits your mood. Sounds unbelievable, right?
What is ONDC?
Open Network Digital Commerce (ONDC) is an initiative by the Government of India to provide an ecosystem to small and medium enterprises to thrive online. With an aim to move towards a digital economy, this platform lets the sellers connect with the end user and sell or showcase their offerings directly to them. There is no involvement of a third party. The delivery partners are also on the platform and can be selected by the seller for the last-mile delivery.
India will have 42 crores of online buyers, by 2030.
Companies like Amazon and Flipkart are monopolizing the business.

Why do we get Food at cheap rates as compared to Swiggy or Zomato?
ONDC enables a restaurant to directly deal with their customers and charges the restaurant 2-4% commission. However, these restaurants have to pay 25 – 30 % commission to Swiggy and Zomato, and as a result, the end user ends up paying more. The restaurants do not have a fixed delivery partner and can choose any delivery part for the last-mile delivery, at their convenience.
This has enabled food delivery as an affordable, efficient, and quick alternative to the overbearing prices on Swiggy and Zomato. In fact, Twitter is flooded with stark comparisons in prices on these apps every other day.
