A Small Farmer in Bihar Donates 11 Kathas of Land For Constructing a School Named After His Mother

Stories related to “Land” consistently feature in the media. But, the one we will tell you will be like music to your ears. Subodh Yadav, a small farmer from Kaharpur village, has donated 11 Kathas of his land for the construction of a school building. His mother, Chandika Devi, found out that the authorities were searching for a piece of land in the village. She motivated Yadav to gift his land for the greater good of the students.

Kaharpur village lies in the Bihpur block of Bhagalpur district in Bihar. Land erosion is one of the most common problems the villagers face here. When the level of water in the Kosi River exceeds a point, it enters the village. In 2020, the village school got submerged in water and was shut. It was the only school in the locality. The students were unhappy, but their options were limited. They would attend schools in blocks quite far from their village.

The authorities found that the school building was damaged. So, they were searching for a piece of land to construct the new school building. When Yadav’s mother knew of it, she selflessly asked her son to donate the land for this purpose. And so, the duo contributed 11 kathas of land worth 8 lakhs rupees to the government towards the bigger cause.

He was happy to have the school renamed after his mother, as the locals and the kids would always associate her with the school.

In this day and age, basic education is just as important for our survival as breathing. And as we foray into the digital world, we must ensure maximum people have access to education. The kind gesture of ordinary people like the farmer supporting education in his community will help make it accessible for all.
