Another month now coming to an end, the wonderful and eventful month of July gave us many moments to cherish. Especially in the field of cricket, we got so many exciting moments. So in this article, we see the best moments from cricket from last month: July 2023.

1.) Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes First-Ever Indian Opener To Score A Test Century On Debut Away From Home

Yashaswi Jaiswal on the back of an exceptional domestic season and an amazing IPL run got his Test debut in India’s away series against West Indies. His debut was as amazing as his career till now as he in his very first innings hit 171 runs and bagged the man of the match award. With this, he also became the first-ever Indian opener to hit a century on debut away from home.

2.) Harman Preet’s Behaviour Lands Her A 2 Match Ban

Following an ODI match between India and Bangladesh, due to the umpiring decisions Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian Team Captain, was seen protesting against the umpiring decisions. So much so, in the post-match presentation, she can be seen criticizing the umpires.

3.) Kohli Hits His First Away Test Hundred After A Long Wait Of 5 Years 

The moment we all Kohli fans were waiting for, seeing the king hit his first away test hundred after 5 years! This came in the second test against West Indies where Virat hit his 29th Test Century. Kohli hit a glorious cover drive against Shannon Gabriel to bring the century. This was also Kohli’s 500th International match thus this century was even more special.

4.) West Indies’ Joshua De Silva’s Mom In Tears After Meeting Kohli

In the same match, after Day 2, Joshua De Silva’s mother met Virat Kohli and soon teared up. In fact, she is such a huge Kohli fan that Joshua even admitted during the match that she came to watch Kohli and not her own son. Now that’s some fandom.

5.) Australia Retain The Ashes After Rain Plays Spoilsport

Since the 4th match of the 2023 Ashes got drawn due to rain, Australia retained the Ashes. The Australian team was leading 2-1 coming into the 4th match of the series and thus due to the draw go back with the urn. England looked threatening in the match and looked like they would have won the match had the rain not forced a draw.

6.) Broad Takes His 600th Wicket And Announces Retirement

The 37-year-old English bowler has impressed everyone over his long career with his bowling. On the first day of the 4th Test against Australia, Broad got the wicket of Travis Head and in doing so took his 600th Test wicket. With this, he became the 5th bowler ever to do so, and the 2nd Englishman after James Anderson to take 600+ wickets.

During the 5th Test of the Ashes we also got a surprise announcement from Broad, who decided to hang up his boots. Broad announce his retirement from cricket leaving behind a glorious career behind him.

7.) New Zealand Women Cricketer Eden Carson Bowls 11 Overs In An ODI Due To Umpiring Error

What is up with umpires and their errors? In an ODI match between Sri Lanka Women and New Zealand Women, due to an umpiring error Eden Carson who had already completed her quota of 10 overs ended up bowling another over. Though this didn’t have a major impact on the game as Sri Lanka needed 116 runs in 4 overs, this was against the rules of the game.

8.) Alex Carey Runs Out Jonny Bairstow Which Sparks Controversy

You know something interesting has happened when suddenly everyone starts talking about the spirit of the game. On the last day of the 2nd Test match of the Ashes, England were playing to save the match when Jonny Bairstow got run out by Alex Carey. What sparked the controversy was the fashion in his Bairstow got out. Cameron Green bowls a bouncer, Bairstow ducks, and the ball is received by Alex Carey who instantly throws it to the stumps. Bairstow believed that the over was completed and left his crease to talk to the nonstriker and gets run out.

9.) Rohit Sharma Batted At Number 7 

In the 1st ODI against West Indies, Rohit Sharma decided to demote himself and came out to bat at number 7. Sharma might have started his career as a finisher but this time it was not because of that. This was done to promote youngsters like Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav to test them for the coming World Cup. In fact, Virat Kohli didn’t even come to bat even though India lost 5 wickets.

10.) Rohit Sharma’s Morning Look Becomes A Meme

The second test match of the series against West Indies might have got drawn because of rain but it still gave us moments. Case in point is this clip of Rohit Sharma which has become a meme.

   

11.) Donovan Ferreira Hits 5 Sixes In An Over In The Zim Afro T10 League

We all remember Rinku Singh’s 5 sixes off the last over to win the match against Gujarat Titans. Though not the same, but still a huge feat, Donovan Ferreira in the ongoing Zim Afro T10 League hit 5 sixes off the last over of the first innings off Karim Janat. His contributions helped his team win the match and he bagged the man of the match.

12.) Heinrich Klaasen Shows His Klaas Aginst Rashid Khan

In the ongoing Major League Cricket, Heinrich Klaasen has continued his amazing IPL form and has taken the tournament by storm. He is currently the highest run scorer and has the best strike rate. In a match against MI New York, Klaasen playing for Seattle Orcas hit 24 runs against an over by Rashid Khan.

13.) Tamim Iqbal Pulls Off An Afridi

Tamim Iqbal in a 13-minute-long emotional monologue on live TV announced his retirement from international cricket. However, this decision was soon reversed. The reason? Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina and former Bangladesh captain Mahsrafe Mortaza intervened and convinced Iqbal to withdraw his retirement.

14.) Lyca Kovai Kings Win The TNPL 2023

With that, we see the end of another entertaining TNPL season. The Lyca Kovai Kings defeated the Nellai Royal Kings by 104 runs to win the tournament. LKK captain Shah Rukh Khan won the purple cap after he ended the season with 17 wickets.

15.) Justin Langer Is The New Head Coach Of LSG

The former Australian coach is now appointed as Lucknow Super Giants’ new head coach. It will be interesting to see the changes he will bring to the fairly new IPL team.

16.) Pakistan Now Has Most Series Wins In Sri Lanka

Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in the recently concluded test series. With that they now have become the most successful team in Sri Lanka, as they have the most number of times there.

17.) West Indies Failed To Qualify For The ODI World Cup For The First Time

It was really heartbreaking to see the 2-time World Cup champions fail to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup. They didn’t qualify for the T20 World Cup in 2022, but this was really heartbreaking for many cricket fans.

18.) India A Lose To Pakistan A in The ACC Emerging Asia Cup Final

Another day, another loss in a final. While India A dominated in the group stage of the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023, India A lost to Pakistan A in the final by a huge margin of 128 runs.

19.) MI New York Win The Inaugural Major League Cricket 

No one can stop MI from winning cricket tournaments, first the IPL, then the WPL, and now the inaugural Major League Cricket. The team didn’t end up high on the points table but won consecutive matches in the playoffs and in the end bagged the title. It was Nicolas Pooran’s amazing knock of 137* off just 55 balls that sealed the win for the MI New York.

20.) England Win The Final Test Of The Ashes To Draw The Series

Though the Australian team retained the ashes with the 4th Test drawn, England came back strong and won the final match of the series to draw the series. Stuart Broad took the last wicket and thus was a poetic end to his epic career.

21.) Mark Wood Pranks Ben Stokes With Barbie Song

With Barbenheimer raging all across the theatres, cricket fans were delighted when this hilarious clip of Ben Stokes went viral. Mark Wood, the English pacer decided to prank his captain Ben Stokes by playing the famous Barbie theme song during his interview. The video is absolutely hilarious I have watched it at least 10 times now!
