Gulmarg Comes Alive this Monsoon with a Carpet of Lupins & Wild Monsoon Flowers

   

When you hear Kashmir, what exactly comes to your mind? Large mountains covered with a blanket of snow that looks like clouds have descended on Earth to take shelter on the mountaintops. Early morning sun rising from the mountains leaving a beautiful golden hue and in the evening leaving them to bask in the silvery light of the moon. In a few words “Paradise”.Kashmir is rightly called so and not just because of its magnanimous mountains but also because of its beautiful valleys.

Especially, the Gulmarg district also known as the Meadow of Kashmir has something to offer every season. But the monsoon season is a little unique as one of the rarest flowers blooms in the valley this time.

Gulmarg and Wildflowers

Gulmarg is a small hamlet in Kashmir which is a popular tourist spot. The ‘Gul’ in Gulmarg literally translates to “flower”. Gulmarg gets covered in a carpet of wildflowers every monsoon, more specifically from mid-June to the end of July. These flowers come in various colors, shapes and sizes carpeting the sprawling green meadows in and around Gulmarg.

The Lupine flowers that grow in the wild bloom in the Gulmarg district in Kashmir have become a special attraction. These flowers bloom in various colors like purple and pink hues giving the whole place an ethereal look. The carpet of flowers looks mesmerizing and has become a popular tourist attraction. Gulmarg is already a popular tourist destination known for activities like skiing but this time the lupines have caught the attention of the internet. Tourists have flocked to the valley to witness this subliminal site.
