6. Dwayne Bravo – 2013

Flamboyance and style are basically synonymous with Dwayne Bravo, and especially so when he bowls like this. He took a whopping 32 wickets in 18 games and an average of 15.53. His time with the Chennai Super Kings yielded some mind-blowing spells, particularly in 2013, including a 4-wicket spell. An economy of 7.95 and a strike rate of 11.7 crowned him with the Purple Cap that season.

7. Mohit Sharma – 2014

Yet another worthy recipient of the Purple Cap from the Chennai Super Kings was Mohit Sharma in the 7th season of the IPL. He was responsible for 23 fantastic dismissals in 16 games with an economy of 8.39 and ended the season with 14 as his strike rate. His numbers did complete justice to his bling of the Purple Cap at the end of the season, case in point his average of 19.65. Sharma really held it down for the CSK through the season.

8. Dwayne Bravo – 2015

Bravo’s name is a self-fulfilling prophecy because that’s what you say every time you watch him bowl. He was the first player to win the coveted title twice in the history of the IPL.  His 26 wickets in 17 matches earned him the title and the unique glory of having it twice. This was also the third consecutive year for a CSK bowler to have been crowned a Purple Cap Winner. His strike rate of 12 and economy of 8.14 brought a real fright to the best of the best batsmen. It’s a true delight to watch Bravo work his magic with the ball.

9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 2016

He was the rising star of the Indian team at the time and he proved himself worthy of the praise and the accolades through the 9th season of the IPL. 10. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 2017

This man is decidedly brilliant. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made history with his second consecutive Purple Cap win in the IPL. And it seems to have been a premeditated plan on his part because his performance was significantly better, even from his own stint the previous year. His average was a mere 14.19 and an economy of 7.05. He took 26 wickets in 14 games and posed a serious threat to some of the greatest batsmen in the world at the time.

11. Andrew Tye – 2018

The Aussie wonder of the season, Andrew Tye earned his Purple Cap for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in his maiden voyage with the team. He was the most valuable asset to the team throughout the season and made his side stronger due to his consistently aggressive performance on the field.

12. Imran Tahir – 2019

What a site what a fright! Imran Tahir was easily one of the best things to watch in the 12th IPL season. His numbers back up this praise, with an economy of 6.69 and an average of 16.57. His total of 26 dismissals was a great boon to his own records and to his team. The South African spinner brought some serious skill and panache to the game and won several matches for his team, the Chennai Super Kings.

13. Kagiso Rabada – 2020

A quick run-up and a deadly ball coming your way. That’s what you see if you’re unfortunate enough to face the ever-dependable Kagiso Rabada, especially in the chaotic 2020 season of the IPL. He took an impressive 30 wickets in 17 games, including Kieron Pollard in the finals against Mumbai Indians. His best of the season was a 4-29 and his economy was a mere 8.34. Rabada’s season average was 18.26, which is especially brilliant considering the changed circumstances of play due to the pandemic.

14. Harshal Patel – 2021

Watching young talent bloom doesn’t get much better than seeing Harshal Patel in the 14th season of the IPL. He bagged 30 wickets in 15 games, 19 of which came in the death.  His economy of 8.14 and an average of  14.34 earned him both praise and the Purple Cap. For a young bowler who was uncapped at the time, Patel showed some incredible character and skill on the pitch, making him a fan favourite with the loyal Royal Challengers Bangalore crowd. His performance in the season earned him a spot in the Indian team in November of the same year.

15. Yuzvendra Chahal – 2022

The newest addition to this list is the beloved Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal. He took 27 wickets through the season, narrowly beating Wanindu Hasaranga’s 26. This is the highest number of wickets taken by a spinner in IPL history. An average of 19.52 and an economy of 7.75 shows just how much hard work and planning went in on his part for this season. His individual best of 5/40 was a magnificent show of skill and technique and it cemented him as the fan favourite for the Purple Cap of the season.
