Gadar 2 created a huge box-office collection and generated a lot of buzz just like its previous part in 2001. Interestingly, it brought back people to the theatres in a world of OTT platforms. This was also due to the fact that Gadar 2 lived up to the expectations of the OG Gadar. The original star cast, the songs, the fight sequences, everything was pure Bollywood magic just like the 2001 Gadar. However, Bollywood and sequels are a match made in heaven. 1. Dhoom 2 (2006)
Dhoom 2 is the sequel to the 2004 action-thriller movie, Dhoom. The original cops from the Dhoom universe remained the same; Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra. The addition of Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan, and Bipasha Basu was what made Dhoom 2 a superhit movie. It surely lived up to the OG Dhoom with its action sequence, humor, and songs.
2. Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015)
One of the best Kangana Ranaut movies was the 2011 Tanu Weds Manu starring R. Madhavan and Jimmy Shergill in lead roles as well. The sequel to this quirky rom-com was appreciated well by the audience because the film did not lose its original essence. With the same star cast, Tanu Weds Manu Returns showcased their life after 4 years, the exact time between the 2 movies!
3. Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006)
The sequel to the 2003 Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. was not exactly a sequel that picks up from where it left the previous movie instead Lage Raho Munna Bhai takes a different turn and talks about how a local don was influenced by Gandhi’s non-violent approach and goes on to solve other people’s problems. The epic duo of Munna and Circuit remained the same and made the movie what it is today.
4. Don 2 (2011)
This 2011 movie was a sequel to the 2006 Don both of which starred Shah Rukh Khan. The 2006 Don was a remake of Big B’s 1978 Don movie. Pulling off a remake of such a classic movie is difficult but adding a sequel to the remake which is also a hit is just another SRK thing.
5. Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2 (2012)
A sequel that was released in the same year as the original, this dark comedy thriller gangster movie is a must-watch for all. Although both parts were supposed to be a single film of 5 plus hours, the director, Anurag Kashyap decided to release it in two parts. Both are worth watching!
6. Golmaal Returns (2008)
The Golmaal franchise is till date one of the best and funniest of all. With the same star cast with some minor changes, Golmaal Returns was as funny as the 2006 Golmaal movie. The dialogues, screenplay, and fun only upgraded with every new addition.
7. Phir Hera Pheri (2006)
A proper sequel to the very funny 2000 Hera Pheri where the next movie picks up from where the previous one left off. With titular characters, Raju, Shyam and Baburao, this movie definitely lived up to the expectations of the OG Hera Pheri. One of the best Bollywood sequels of all time.
8. Gadar 2 (2023)
The excitement among people for Gadar 2 is not unknown. It’s like 2001 is back and we are living our nostalgic dream. The star cast, the songs, the action sequences, everything justified the OG Gadar and people actually coming in on tractors is the living proof of how successful this sequel is.
9. Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013)
A sequel to the 2011 Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster movie, this installment unfurled more twists and turns with more thrill and more betrayal. The addition of Irfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan proved to be great as they provided a good story that could pick up from the previous one. In all this is how sequels are made.
10. Angrezi Medium (2020)
Angrezi Medium is not your classic sequel in the way sequels are made. The first movie, Hindi Medium talked about how difficult it is for parents to get their child even the most basic education, and the sequel talks about education but in the context of college. Both were masterpieces and both had only 2 OG characters who stole the show- Irfan Khan and Deepak Dobriyal
11. Dabangg 2 (2012)
A sequel to the 2010 action comedy movie in the Salman Khan cop-verse, Dabangg 2 was as good as the first one. Of course, Naina (eyes) made an appearance here and this time they were ‘Dagabaaz’. With OG star cast including Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Arbaaz Khan, Dabangg has some over-the-top action sequences, justifying a Salman movie.
12. Singham Returns (2014)
A sequel to the 2011 Singham movie, this Ajay Devgan starrer movie was as good as the previous one. The action sequences and the performance by Ajay Devgan is what made it one of the best Bollywood sequels of all time. The popularity of the Singham franchise only grew with this movie.
13. Double Dhamaal (2011)
The best sequels are the ones that pick up from where they left off. Same with Double Dhamaal, a sequel to the OG Dhamaal. The four good-for-nothing friends are back with the cop behind their backs. Dhamaal was as funny as it could get. The writing, acting and punchlines were on point and actually lived up to the expectations of the previous movie.
14. Race 2 (2013)
It is difficult to even live up to the expectations of the original movie but Race 2 went a step ahead and became better than the OG. This multi-starrer movie is the sequel to the 2008 action thriller movie, Race. With action, thrill, dialogues, screenplay and even the songs on point, this movie is how sequels should be made.
