This season started off with Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai still on their quest to make atomic bombs for India and flying rockets in space, respectively. We get to see a lot about the political tensions in and outside India regarding the new scientific developments and also the role of the CIA in trying to bring India down. Hansal Mehta is back with another scam and this time the amount is bigger than the last one. The Telgi scam of 2003 was a scandal that involved INR 30,000 crores. A man called Abdul Karim Telgi was involved in this stamp paper counterfeiting scam. A truly gripping series with the first volume live on OTT and the second volume to be released soon.

A refreshing content in the thriller genre, Asur was already a hit when it came out. The way it amalgamates myths into the current geo-political scenario of the country is impeccable. The performance by each and every actor in the series is amazing and justifies such an intense storyline.

The show revolves around an underrated struggling artist who turns into a counterfeiting genius to help his grandfather save his sinking newspaper business. Everything about the show is marvelous, from the gripping story to the amazing performances by the actors. Directed by Raj and DK, the show is a masterpiece that you shouldn’t miss out on.

   

6. Taali | IMDb: 8.4 | 15th August | JioCinema

One of the most highly-rated shows on OTT this month was Sushmita Sen’s Taali. It tells the life and story of the transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant. The show throws light on how Sawant struggled to live a respectable life and her fight with society. This show was Sushmita Sen’s career-best performance. One of the best OTT releases from August.

7. Jubilee | IMDb: 8.4 | 7th April | Prime Video

The show stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Aparshakti Khurana, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sidhant Gupta, and Prosenjit Chatterjee and traces the dynamic history of Bollywood, showcasing both the dark and bright sides. The series tells true anecdotes of real-life actors, making us realize the diversity within the Hindi film industry. Vikramaditya Motwane outdid himself in capturing the true essence of the period in which the show is set.

8. The Jengaburu Curse | IMDb: 8.2 | 9th August | Sony LIV

India’s first cli-fi (climate fiction) by the internationally acclaimed producer and director, Nila Madhab was well received by the audience. The story revolves around an ailing father and his London return daughter and how strange events take place that point out a connection between the mining state of Odisha and the indigenous Bondia tribe. A really good watch for sure.

9. Taaza Khabar | IMDb: 8.1 | 5th January | Disney+Hotstar

This is the OTT debut of the very famous YouTuber Bhuvan Bam aka BB Ki Vines. It is the story of Vasant Gawade, a sanitation worker who turns his life around after acquiring a magical boon that can predict the future. With some of the best actors, this series was a great way to start the year.

10. Kaalkoot | IMDb: 7.9 | 27th July | JioCinema

A simple can be made amazing by strong performances and good writing. This is the case with Kaalkoot. With cast like Vijay Verma, Shweta Tripathi, Yash Sharma along with others, and written by Arunabh Kumar and Sumit Saxena, Kaalkoot is a very simple yet powerful story of a man who tries to balance his work and personal life as a cop in UP. The attention to detail in this is commendable.
