We all know how the film industry has mirrored our lives and given us a glimpse of some of our known people. In the same way, it portrayed how our teachers actually were and how they inspired us to become who we are today. All these characters are somewhat real to what we have seen as students. Let us have a look at some of the best on-screen teachers of all time:
1. Aamir Khan as Ram Shankar Nikumbh | Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Probably one of the best teachers ever! The way Ram Shankar Nikumbh bonded with Ishaan, a dyslexic boy and handled him with empathy rather than disgust, is what we need in a teacher. Going out of his way to help the little boy as no one around him understood why he couldn’t focus. Also, it was Ram who helped Ishaan realize his potential in art and showed the world that with a little help, he can be more than ordinary!
2. Shah Rukh Khan as Kabir Khan | Chak De India (2007)
A coach or mentor or teacher, you can call Kabir Khan whatever you like. He was, no doubt, the best hockey coach out there but he did more than that. He taught those girls how to stay together even if they all went against him. He also taught them team spirit and helped each one of them let go of their inner monsters and channel their energy in the right direction.
3. Rani Mukherjee as Naina Mathur | Hichki (2018)
Naina Miss was just like a favourite teacher we had back in school. She was given the task of handling some unruly children and she never despised them. She knew they could achieve something if given an opportunity and also if shown the right direction just like the Pole Star. She chose some unique ways of teaching and was always there to defend her students no matter what. This is what we call a great teacher.
4. Kamal Haasan as Selvam | Nammavar (1994)
A good teacher who left no stone unturned to bring about positive change in his college. Selvam was one of the most benevolent teachers on screen. All he wanted to do was help his students achieve something in life and not waste their time on shallow things. By adopting a different teaching technique, Selvam helps students to gain more focus. He brought the discipline that was needed to run a college.
5. Jyothika as Ammu | Raatchasi (2019)
Ammu or Geeta Rani is a selfless woman who gets to know about a poorly functioning government school and decides to take up the position of the school’s headmistress to improve its state. She makes many friends as well as enemies during this process but still is determined to complete her vision. Ammu is undoubtedly one of the best on-screen teachers of all time.
6. Hrithik Roshan as Anand Kumar | Super 30 (2019)
Anand Kumar is a teacher who is passionate about teaching and that is the first and foremost quality of a good teacher. He was enthusiastic about sending his students to IITs and taught them for free. A real-life story of this kind of teacher gives us hope for humanity.
7. Divya Dutta as Rosy Miss | Stanley Ka Dabba (2011)
The sweetest and kindest teacher we ever came across. Rosy Miss was the teacher who encouraged her students to do good by rewarding them for their efforts. She always appreciated Stanley for his good imagination skills and even took a stand for him when Khadoos bullied him.
8. Shah Rukh Khan as Raj Aryan | Mohabbatein (2000)
We agree ‘Pratishtha, Parampara and Anusashan’ are important but students also need to relax a little. They deserve some good school memories, a sweet sixteen love story and a teacher who is like a friend. Raj Aryan gave everything to Gurukul that it was lacking. Not the best example but Raj was a good teacher.
9. Pankaj Tripathi as Principal Shrivastava | Nil Battey Sannata (2015)
Principal Shrivastava was a good human first and then a good teacher. He understood the plight of a mother and gave her admission to his school. He was a little rough around the edges when he used to scold pupils in front of the whole class but sometimes we need a strict teacher to finally be disciplined.
10. Shabana Azmi as Vidya | Chalk n Duster
Vidya was an amazing teacher with zeal and enthusiasm for teaching. Her methods of teaching were effective and she made sure that her students actually learn whatever she is teaching. She did not hesitate to help a boy and teach him for free. She was truly one of the best on-screen teachers of all time.
11. Boman Irani as Dr. Viru Sahastrabuddhe | 3 Idiots (2009)
Yes, he was not the best teacher as he never understood his students or even his own son but what made him a good teacher later was accepting that he was wrong and finally appreciating Rancho. Not to forget he was really sharp and knew his subject as well as all his students well.
12. Rishi Kapoor as Santosh Duggal | Do Dooni Chaar (2010)
He was just like any other math teacher but what made him special was that he actually cared about his students even the bad ones. He never accepted bribes or resorted to any unsolicited means to give his students passing marks despite his financial needs. He was a man of integrity!
