15 Best Releases on OTT From This Month: August 2023

   

August saw some of the best OTT releases. We all binge-watched some of the best shows and movies with a cup of tea while enjoying the monsoon in the comfort of our homes- PEACE. Deciding among different genres was difficult as we love a thriller like The Jengaburu Curse and a light-hearted animation like The Monkey King, so we skipped the deciding part and watched it all. And now we bring you some of the hand-picked best OTT releases from August.

1. Satyaprem Ki Katha | Prime Video

A beautiful story with a classic Bollywood trope where a middle-class boy falls in love with a girl out of his league. Seems like an average love story but the plotline hits you differently. The way the movie unfolds, you will feel the nostalgic good old Bollywood vibes coming back. With an excellent star cast, this movie was highly appreciated by audiences and got an IMDb rating of 4/5.

2. The Hunt For Veerappan | Netflix

This Tamil-English docu-series, directed is Selvamani Selvaraj, is based on true events that followed in the manhunt of the notorious criminal Veerappan. Touted as ‘unseen and unheard’ in the series, Veerappan was India’s most deadly criminal. The 20-year-long|  struggle to catch this dreaded smuggler is what the series focuses on. It was well-received by the audience and had an IMDb rating of 4.3/5.

3, Made In Heaven Season 2 | Prime Video

One of the highly anticipated web series, Made In Heaven somewhat lived up to the expectations of the audience. As the series’ format goes, this season also touched upon some sensitive topics like homophobia, racism, caste system, alimony, infidelity and more. This season also introduced two new characters Meher, a transgendered woman played by Trinetra and Bulbul, an accountant and Mr. Jauhari’s wife played by Mona Singh. Needless to say, Mona Singh stole the show with her amazing performance.

4. Taali | JioCinema

One of the most highly-rated shows on OTT this month was Sushmita Sen’s Taali. It tells the life and story of the transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant. The show throws light on how Sawant struggled to live a respectable life and her fight with society. With an IMDb rating of 4.9/5, this show was Sushmita Sen’s career-best performance. One of the best OTT releases from August.

5. Por Thozhil: Sony LIV

This Tamil-language crime thriller movie received positive reviews and was a commercial success. An unforgettable movie that will keep you hooked from the beginning. We do not wanna give out much but you cannot miss the amazing climax. With an IMDb rating as high as 4.7/5 you can understand how good this movie is.

6. The Jengaburu Case | Sony LIV

India’s first cli-fi (climate fiction) by the internationally acclaimed producer and director, Nila Madhab was well received by the audience. The story revolves around an ailing father and his London return daughter and how strange events take place that point out a connection between the mining state of Odisha and the indigenous Bondia tribe. A really good watch for sure.

7. Heart Of Stone | Netflix

One of the most anticipated movies for Alia Bhatt fans as it was a gateway for Alia in Hollywood with stars like Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan. This American spy action thriller received a lukewarm reception from the audience with only a 3.1/5 IMDb rating. People had more expectations than the movie delivered.

8. The Kashmir Files: Unreported | Zee5

   

With the huge success of The Kashmir Files, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri released this docu-series that talks about the background of the Kashmir genocide of 1990 that inspired the original movie. The lesser-known aspects and incidents of the exodus of the Kashmiri Hindus from the valley is what the series explores.

 9. Guns And Gulaabs | Netflix

A dark comedy crime thriller that was fairly received by the audience. The best part about this movie was the 90s backdrop and also one of the most loved villains this year, Atmaram (not Tukaram Bhide). Although the IMDb rating was 3.9/5, the show and its dark comedy is not everyone’s cup of tea.

10. Dhoomam | Prime Video

This Malayalam-language action thriller movie explores themes of identity, memory, and perception. A psychological turn that the movie takes with a man with no memory of his past and a secret that can destroy his life, is a treat to watch. Although it had a lukewarm reception with 3.2/5, thriller movie fans can watch it.

11. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart | Prime Video

The life of Alice changes drastically when her parents die and she is sent off to live with her grandmother on a flower farm. The setting is amazingly beautiful which makes this mini-series worth watching. Also, the plotline gets more interesting as the story progresses. Received well by the audience, this web series had a 4.4/5 IMDb rating.

12. Ahsoka | Disney+Hotstar

Also known as Star Wars: Ahsoka is a Star War franchise and a spin-off from the series The Mandalorian. Ahsoka Tano investigates an emerging threat to the galaxy following the fall of the Empire. Needless to say, Star Wars fans loved it as it is a continuation of the animated series Star Wars Rebels while being interconnected with the events from Return Of The Jedi.

13. Dayaa | Disney+Hotstar

This Telugu language crime thriller is written and directed by Pavan Sadineni. The plot revolves around a freezer driver whose life turns upside down when he finds a dead body in his van. What follows is a chaotic turn of events that will keep you hooked to your screens.

14. The Monkey King | Netflix

This film is inspired by the Ming Dynasty classic, Journey to the West. With everything like action, comedy, and fantasy, this is sure to tickle your funny bones. Although it received a lukewarm reception with IMDb rating of 3/5, this is a family entertainer.

15. Adipurush | Netflix

The most talked about movie of this year, Adipurush had an OTT release this month. This movie needs no introduction or any ratings. People already know about this disaster.
