17 Best Releases on OTT from Last Month: June 2023
June 2023 will always be remembered for the remarkable and gripping OTT releases it got us. It made our lives vibrant with diverse releases that ranged from Korean dramas such as Bloodhound and Japanese Anime such as Ôoku: The Inner Chambers. In fact, this month, we saw sequels to some of our most awaited shows, such as Asur and The Night Manager.

Asur 2 was released after a long wait of three years after the huge success of the first season. The psychological thriller show, which has Barun Sobti and Arshad Warsi in prime roles, picked up from where the previous season ended. We get to see them hunt for the real mastermind Shubh Joshi behind the crimes. Nikhil is getting his team ready to tackle him while Dj operates in the dark.
The Scoop is based on the real-life story of journalist Jigna Vohra and her fight for justice. She was wrongly framed for conspiring with the Chotta Rajan gang to get Joytirmitra Dey, a Mid-Day reporter, killed. It features Karishma Tanna as Jigna Vohra. The show is produced by Hansal Mehta, who has produced famous web series like Scam 1992 and Modern Love: Mumbai.
The series starring Chris Hemsworth topped Netflix’s worldwide charts to become number one within days of its release. In fact, critics and audiences both feel that it is even better than the original film released in 2020. Extraction 2 is an epic action gatha that explores bigger, bolder, and even more daring acts of the skilled commando who’s had a near-death experience but does not shy from risking his life to save a dreaded gangster’s imprisoned family.
4. Ponniyin Selvan: II | Amazon Prime Video
Mani Ratnam continues to weave magic with the second part of Ponniyin Selvan: II. It has Aishwariya Rai, Vikram, Sara Arjun, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Karthi amongst others in the lead roles. The period drama continues Prince Arulmozhi Varman’s story, but it is shorter, crisper, and with many exciting twists and turns. The film made headlines as it was released across 3200 screens and collected 300 Crore at the box office.
5. Never Have I Ever – 4 | Netflix
We’ve all loved the teen comedy show for Devi, an Indian American teenager. At no point in her journey, she comes across as someone who is different from us. She is just as messed up and a work in progress as all of us. And now, in the fourth season, though her story starts at the same place where it ended previously; there are many complicated decisions that hang as loose strings, and it would be interesting to watch if she has it all sorted in her head and life. The last season of the Mindy Kaling show is one of the top-rated shows on Netflix.
Bloodhounds is a Korean series directed by Kim Joo-hwan. It explores the lives of two young boxers who fall prey to a private loan shark and find themselves trapped in a world of debt and goons. They team up with a moneylender to take on the nexus. The K drama is high on action, crime and bits of comedy here and there. The bromance of Woo Do Hwan and Sang Yi will win you over.
7. The Night Manager Part 2 | Disney + Hotstar
It was the most awaited sequel of an action-packed crime thriller featuring Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor pitted against each other. While the previous season saw Shaan Sengupta (Aditya Roy Kapoor), an Indian agent and former officer in the Indian Navy, enter the inner circle of an illegal arms dealer Shailender Rungta. This season, even though Shaan and Shelly unite for work, they have secrets and deeper agendas, which unravels in the interesting plot turns and twists.
8. Secret Invasion | Disney +Hotstar
Nick Fury and his allies get together to protect humanity from a secret invasion on Earth by shapeshifting Skrulls. It is the 9th series of the Marvel franchise. It has humor, emotions, look and feel in the right proportions, which make it a compelling watch. The action-packed drama will keep you addicted to it until the end.
Sharman Joshi and Mona Singh starrer Kafas explores the sensitive topic of child abuse. It is directed by Sahil Sangha and is a Hindi adaptation of the British web series” Dark Money”. It shows how middle-class parents who know of it are caged by the societal and financial pressures to choose money over justice for their child’s agony. Kafas is a bold and gripping drama for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that it acknowledges child abuse does not discriminate between gender.

The supernatural drama has Vardhan Puri, Siddhant Kapoor, Elena Fernandes, and Adi Chug in prime roles. It revolves around the mystery of Jinn, who are called Aseq and are hard to get rid of when infatuated with a person. Ronnie falls in love with Lail, but striking coincidences and eerie events make him suspect that his ex-girlfriend is behind all this. He must do something about the situation. The American series is directed and produced by Chad Stahelski.The breathtaking action thriller stars Keanu Reeves as the main character, John Wick. He is on a mission to take revenge on the High Table and those who left him for dead. But, there is a new and powerful enemy on the horizon with an alliance across the globe that threatens to ruin everything. How must John Wick turn the tide in his favor is for you to watch. The critically acclaimed film became the franchise’s highest-grossing film, collecting $ 432 million worldwide.
12. Lust Stories Season 2 | Netflix
After five years, the makers are back with season 2 of Lust Stories. The anthology film comprises four love stories directed by the most talented Konkona Sen Sharma, R. Balki, Sujoy Ghosh, and Amit Ravindernath Sharma. Lust Stories 2, like the previous season, will set the screen on fire as women explore themes of relationships and sexuality. Only they are even bold in their discussions and acts this time. The stellar female cast of the film includes Kajol, Neena Gupta, Tamannah, and Mrunal Thakur.
13. Ōoku: The Inner Chambers | Netflix
It is a web anime based on a manga series by Fumi Yoshinaga. The story brings forth an imagined version of history where an unknown killer disease has taken the life of the male population. As a result, women have assumed all the societal roles of men, including that of the Shogun. The story explores how the changed gender roles affect society. It is the first anime adaptation of the series. The award-winning story was directed by Noriyuki Abe. It was one of our most anticipated series.
The Japanese series carefully dramatizes the events around the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear plant in 2011. It was directed by Masaki Nishiura and Hideo Nakata. The series presents the complex choices and tough decisions of the men who were involved with the plant, top-down. While some hailed them as heroes who prevented the event from spreading, others have criticized them for being irresponsible. The series features Koji Yakusho, who won the Best Actor Award for performing in Perfect Days at Cannes this year.
Two apt words to describe Black Mirror series is: mind-boggling. If the previous seasons showed downsides of our high-tech world, this season is bleaker, darker and more disturbing than the previous seasons.
