The past year, with the COVID ensuing a global pandemic, had a severe blow on the Mumbai film industry. The pandemic has begun to recede. And with that, we have our movie theaters opening. Interestingly, the attendance in movie theaters have been exceptionally good. Judging by the reception of the recent films, I think we can say with certainty that India is a country where we love movies. We are having a good run at the theaters with some really good films. It is great to see an industry that we all grew up with, slowly getting back on their feet, after going through an unfortunate event. Let’s take a look at the best Bollywood movies of 2022 (so far).

1. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Nobody can deny the influence of Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the movie industry. His frames, with vibrant colours and extravagant sets, are a delight to watch. This movie stars Alia Bhatt as the titular character giving the performance of a lifetime.

2. Jhund

Directed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, the famed director of Sairat, comes a biographical sports drama starring Amitabh Bachchan. A football coach, Vijay Barse, teaches football to the youth living in slums.

3. Looop Lapeta

Adapted from the German film Run Lola Run, Loop Lapeta stars Tapsee Pannu in the lead role, as she races against time to save her boyfriend.

4. Jersey

A remake of the original Telugu film of the same name, Jersey stars Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, and Pankaj Kapoor in the lead roles. It talks about the journey of a talented but failed cricketer who decides to join cricket in his late thirties.

5. Jalsa

Jalsa is a crime-thriller drama directed by Suresh Triveni starring Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah in pivotal roles. A grieving mother, a journalist, and a policeman get involved in a hit-and-run case.

6. Love Hostel

Love Hostel is a romantic-thriller film directed by Shanker Raman. It stars Sanya Malhotra, Vikrant Massey, and Bobby Deol. A newlywed interfaith couple seeks shelter in a government-safe home, a facility providing secret housing to similar couples anticipating harm from their parents or communities.

An uneducated politician with immense power at his disposal decides to spend his time in jail by studying for high school. But his wife has plans of her own.

Yami Gautam stars as Naina, a school teacher who takes 16 students hostage. Her demands rattle the police and the political leaders of the country.

After getting married, two couples from different generations discuss their relationship problems, which include infidelity and divorce.

A young girl who is drawn into the blatant community of smuggling cocaine is the subject of the movie, which is an official remake of the Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila.
