Bollywood presented a new and refreshing lineup of movies, that included some much-anticipated sequels to our favorite films. As August approached us, it brought the joy of rain in some cities, while also reminding us of the summer heat in between! All in all, it was a perfect month for a movie date with friends, family, or your beloved partner. After witnessing the release of blockbuster movies like “Neeyat,” “Tarla,” and “Rocky Aur Rani ki Prem Kahani” in July, the next set of movies released in August gave back the lost shine that Bollywood was yearning for last few years. Let’s check out the list of some note-worthy Bollywood movies released in August 2023.
1. Coat | August 4 | Released in Theatres
Coat is a village family drama movie that questions the social norms and standards for getting basic rights of living with dignity. It tells the story of Madho- a pig farmer and his father reside in an Indian village where they are seen as lowly and not respected as they belong to a lower caste.
One day a a foreigner visits their village and Madho sees him receiving a lot of respect from villagers- that gets him thinking and he finally decides to buy the same expensive coat in order to get respect from villagers. It is directed by Akshay Ditti, and Kumar Abhishek, and stars Vivaan Shah alongside Sanjay Mishra in the main roles.
2. Gadar 2 | August 11 | Released in Theatres
This is the second film of the Gadar franchise that was first released in 2001. The first film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha released in 2001- This action romance drama movie is considered one of the landmark movies of Indian cinema that grossed huge profits at the box office. Following its success, the makers are bringing its second part after 22 years! Gadar 2 is carrying forward the same story wherein the lead character Tara Singh is returning to Pakistan once again to bring his song Charanjeet back to India.
This story is set in 1970s India- during the Indo-Pak war, and this time too it will be risky for Tara Singh to cross the borders. It is directed by Anil Sharma and features Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Simrat Kaur, Utkarsh Sharma, and Luv Sinha in important roles. The movie repeated the magic again crossing 400 crore worth of box office collection and the audience clapped while hearing Hindustan Zindabad. You will get the same level of chills once again after 22 years!
3. OMG 2 | August 11 | Released in Theatres
This was undoubtedly, one of the most awaited movies that was released in August. OMG is a successful satirical drama film franchise that had a successful first part released in 2012. After the success, the makers are bringing back the magic of this movie in a second movie that has a whole new concept and set of characters. OMG 2 has a different story about a man whose son is facing problems in life- it has an underlining theme of the commercialization of religion while also talking about a taboo topic- sex education.
It is written and directed by Amit Rai and stars Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam Dhar, and Arun Govil in prominent roles. The movie has limited viewership because of A certificate- but it still didn’t stop the movie from becoming a success!
4. Tariq | August 15 | Released in Theatres
It is a mystery drama film that is based on true events. It was released in the theatres on 15th August 2023-our 77th Independence Day. Tariq is directed by Arun Gopalan, and stars John Abraham, and Rukmini Maitra as the lead pair. Apart from the main leads, Gajala, Sujith Shankar, and Bajrang Bali Singh also have important roles in the movie.
It shows the story of a man who wants to move past his tragic past but is often reminded of it by the ghost of his dead wife! What keeps the curiosity level up is the fact that the movie is based on a true story.
5. Dream Girl 2 | August 25 | Released in Theatres
It is also the second part of the comedy-drama movie Dream Girl. The first movie starred Ayushman Khurrana who hosts a late-night radio talk show in the voice of a woman. The story focuses on Karam, a Mathura-based man who voices an imaginary character- Pooja on a talk show. But this time he has turned his whole persona into a girl, while also wanting to impress the girl of her dreams- Pari.
A lot of comedy of errors happens in this movie! Dream Girl 2 is directed by Raaj Shaandilya and also stars Ananya Pandey, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Vijay Raaj, and Seema Pahwa in important roles. This movie has got mixed reactions from the public but is still a hit and recommended by many to at least watch once!
