1. Choona | August 3 |Netflix
It is a heist comedy-drama series about a group of people who meet coincidentally and have no common interest or link except one- enmity with a notorious politician with only one weakness-superstition. Together the group plans a heist to take revenge against him. The plot itself tells that a lot of great dark-comedy punches can happen in the show! This web series is written and directed by Pushpendra Nath Misra and features Jimmy Shergill, Aashim Gulati, Arshad Warsi, Namit Das Vikram Kochhar, and Chandan Roy in important roles. It is another Indian dark comedy show on Netflix. However, its release date has now been pushed forward to September 29- so wait up a bit more- it could be one of those mind-blowing series too!
2. Dayaa |August 4|Disney+Hotstar
It is a crime drama series that is a remake of a Bengali web series- Taqdeer. The show focuses on the story of a freezer van driver who is happily living his life and spending time with his best friend. However, one fine day, he finds a dead body inside his van and his world comes crashing down. Thereafter, a series of shocking truths unfold, tragic events, and a lot more chaos come uninvited into the lives of this van driver and his best friend. This Telugu series is directed by Pavan Sadineni and stars Keshav Deepak, J.D. Chakravarthi, and Eesha Rebba in prominent roles.
3. The Jengaburu Case | August 9| SonyLIV
It sure sounds interesting because of its name and also because it is India’s first cli-fi (a genre dealing with climate change) series! Yup, and to top it all – the show is directed by the internationally acclaimed and award-winning director Nila Mahdab Panda. This climate-fiction thriller show is about a London-based financial analyst Priya Das whose father goes missing out of the blue. She comes back to India and starts a search mission only to find that there is a mysterious connection between the indigenous Bondia tribe and the mining happening in Odisha. The series shows the dark side of humankind who are endlessly greedy when it comes to obtaining resources from nature. The show features Nassar, Melanie Gray, and Makrand Deshpande in prominent roles.
4. Abar Proloy | August 11| ZEE5
It is a Bengali crime drama series that narrates the story of a Crime Branch officer, Animesh Datta who is assigned a mission to catch the culprits behind the girl child trafficking racket happening in the Sundarbans forest in West Bengal. A group of trained teenagers lure innocent girls and women into a love trap. The clock is ticking and now it is up to him to save a lot of innocent girls falling prey to this racket. The show is directed by Raj Chakraborty and features Saswata Chatterjee, Paran Banerjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, and Ritwick Chakraborty in the main roles.
5. Guns & Gulaabs | August 18 | Netflix
This comedy thriller show was created by Krishna D.K. and Raj Nidimoru. It is also one of the most anticipated Indian web series that was released in August. The show is about a group of young misfits who somehow jump into the world of crime and have no idea how to deal with it! Their innocence, love, the charm of the golden old 90s era, and the ensemble star cast including Dalqeer Salman, Rajkumar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah, Goutan Sharma, Krish Rao, and T.J Bhanu- all are enticing features. The show got a lot of hype and still is among the top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix in India.
