August is just around the corner and it brings a humdrum of festivities like Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, etc. This clearly means more holidays. And what do we do on holidays, we celebrate it our style- sometimes with family and sometimes just alone. But good movies and web series are something that actually fits both our moods- watch it with family or just with your own solidarity- both works. 1. Gadar 2 | In Theatres | August 11

Probably the most awaited film of the year. Gadar was a blockbuster movie in 2001 and its sequel Gadar 2 has gotten people’s hopes high. With the original star cast including Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, we all are eagerly waiting for what Gadar 2 has in it for us and maybe relive the 2000s Sunny Deol action-hero nostalgia. Also excited to see Ameesha Patel back on the big screen after so many years.

2. Bhola Shankar | In Theatres | August 11

An upcoming Telegu- language film with the most amazing star cast – Chiranjeevi, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles, this action movie is a remake of the 2015 film Vedalam. Meher Ramesh’s Bhola Shankar has high expectations as its Tamil counterpart Vedalam was a box office success.

3. Choona | Netflix | August 3

With Jimmy Shergil in the titular role, the trailer for Choona looks promising. With a gripping storyline of a politician-astrologer played by Shergill, a heist worth 800 crores, and an excellent ensemble of cast, Choona seems like a binge-worthy show. We are counting this as Jimmy Shergill’s one of the best performances and the series as one of the best releases in August!

4. Tariq | In Theatres | August 15

An upcoming movie starring John Abraham and directed by Arun Gopalan, Tariq is all set to release on the occasion of Independence Day. Though not much is known about the movie yet, we are in for an action-filled patriotic movie given the release date and John Abraham’s filmography.

5. Guns and Gulaabs | Netflix | August 18

Rajkumar Rao is all set to woo the audiences once again with Guns and Gulaabs. The comedy crime series is set in the backdrop of the 90s era. The teaser seems impressive as Raj and DK did a good job setting the scene with costumes, background score, and the 90s vibes. Inspired by the ‘Misfits of the World’ with an Indian touch, this series is on our must-watch list.

6. Made In Heaven Season 2 | Amazon Prime | August 11

Season 1 gave us a glimpse of how all that glitter is not gold. The whole extravagant glitz and glamour of rich people’s weddings is not always what it looks like. With great performances by Shobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Jim Sarbh, Kalki, and the rest of the cast in the previous season, they are back with a new season. Hopefully, we will get some answers from the previous season and lots of lavish weddings to see. MIH season 2 will be one of the best releases in August 2023.

7. Oh My God 2 | In Theatres | August 11

   

OMG 2 is perhaps a breath of fresh air in this plethora of rom-com and thriller-action movies. A relationship between God and his devotee is shown in perhaps a not-seen-before kind of way. Although we miss Paresh Rawal aka Kanji Lalji Mehta, the atheist in this part but the makers have thoroughly compensated us with Pankaj Tripathi who plays a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva. With Akshay Kumar in his usual avatar, we wish OMG 2 stands the test of time.

8. Heart of Stone | Netflix | August 11

An upcoming American spy action thriller film, Heart of Stone is all set to release on Netflix this month. With Gal Gadot in the leading role, this movie also stars our very own Alia Bhatt. Indians have been really excited about this movie as this will be Alia’s debut in Hollywood. With Gal Gadot’s amazing action sequence, Jamie Dornan’s looks and Alia Bhatt’s presence, this movie will surely be a massive hit among Indian audiences.

9. The Hunt for Veerapan | Netflix | August 4

This Tamil- English docu-series, directed is Selvamani Selvaraj, is based on true events that followed in the manhunt of the notorious criminal Veerappan. Touted as ‘unseen and unheard’ in the series, Veerappan was India’s most deadly criminal. The series contains first hand accounts of people who were involved in the manhunt for this monster. If you love watching true crime shows, maybe this one is for you.

10. The Monkey King | Netflix | August 18

This animated movie is the entertainer of the month. With everything like action, comedy, and fantasy, this is sure to tickle your funny bones. This film is inspired by the Ming Dynasty classic, Journey to the West. A monkey king fighting a dragon king is what we need for an epic weekend watch.

11. The Jengaburu Curse | Sony LIV | August 9

India’s first cli-fi (climate fiction) series is here. Internally acclaimed producer and director, Nila Madhab brings this to life. The story revolves around an ailing father and his London return daughter and how strange events take place that points out a connection between the mining state of Odisha and the indigenous Bondia tribe. This series will be an eye-opener for all humankind as the repercussions of human activities on nature is irreversible.

12. Dream Girl 2 | In Theatres | August 25

With the highly acclaimed Dream Girl, Ayushmaan Khurana is back with Dream Girl 2. Raj Shaandaliya under Balaji Motion Pictures, has directed this comedy-drama movie. The cast looks promising and the teasers till now has just confirmed the same. We can’t wait to meet Pooja again! This surely is one of the best releases in August!

13. Depp V Heard | Netflix | August 16

The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case took the internet by storm last year. The 6-week long case was televised and gained a lot of traction. Depp eventually won the defamation lawsuit against Heard as she was publicly criticized by all. What was the actual truth and how can you gauge it, is what will be shown in this three-part docu-series.
