18 Best Cricket Moments From This Month: June 2023

   

June 2023 was an exciting month for the world of cricket as we saw the culmination of the 2 year WTC cycle with Australia winning the coveted title. We also witnessed the much-anticipated 1st Test of the 2023 Ashes which saw the 2 best teams in Test cricket England, and Australia go head-to-head. Other than that with the IPL over, many domestic T20 Leagues were played most notably the Tamil Nadu Premier League and the Vitality Blast, the domestic T20 League of England. With all this happening in the world of cricket there are many moments that caught our eye. In this article, we bring you all the best cricket moments from this month: June 2023.

1.) Two Reviews In One Ball: R Ashwin Takes DRS After Batter In Bizarre Incident in TNPL 2023

In the TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League) match between Ba11sy Trichy and Dindigul Dragons, a DRS was taken by the batter when he was given out by the umpire on a ball by R Ashwin. The third umpire on review reversed the decision as there was no edge. However, immediately Ashwin reviewed the decision again, and hence 2 DRS were taken on the same ball, one by the batter and one by the bowler. In the end, the third umpire stood by his decision and the batter remained not out.

2.) Hasaranga Is Unstoppable In The World Cup Qualifiers

In the ongoing World Cup qualifiers, where teams are competing for 2 spots in the World Cup which will be played in India, Wanindu Hasaranga is absolutely crushing it. The Sri Lankan spinner and all-rounder has taken 3 successive 5-wicket hauls and became the second-ever bowler in ODI history after Waqar Younis to do so.

3.) Inattentive Batter ‘Caught Snoozing’ On The Pitch, Gets Run Out In Hilarious Fashion

Following his 30th Test Century in the 1st Test of the Ashes, Joe Root became the no.1 test batter. He overtook Marnus Labuschagne who is having a slow start to the 2023 season to become the no.1 batter after 6 months.

Bazball is not just about aggressive batting, it is also aggressive in fielding as these pics certainly show. Putting these ultra-aggressive field placements against Australian batters, Ben Stokes made them feel uncomfortable. In fact, after Usman Khawaja was set and had hit a century, Stokes’ aggressive field placement made him a little uncomfortable and got out.

6.) Tammy Beaumont Becomes The First England Double Centurion In Women’s Test Cricket

In the recently concluded Women’s Ashes test at Trent Bridge, history was made as Tammy Beaumont became the first English women’s cricketer to score a double century. Her double century, however, came in a losing cause as Australian women won the match by 89 runs.

Well, one of the most badass crowds has to be the England crowd and especially the Edgbaston fans. On day 4 of the 1st Ashes test, crowds were chanting “we saw you cry on the telly” to mock Steve Smith. I don’t know who’s crying now after that match.

Sophie Ecclestone, the England left-arm spinner, is the best Women’s bowler out there and the recently concluded Women’s Ashes Test showed that. She took 5 wickets in both innings of the test match and became only the 5th woman in cricket history to do so.

11.) Australia Defeat India In WTC Final And Are Crowned Champions

The 2 years World Test Championship (WTC) cycle came to an end this month with Australia winning the coveted trophy. They beat India by a huge 209 runs at the Oval.

12.) Rahane’s Epic Comeback: From Dropped From The Test Team To Becoming Vice-Captain Again

Owing to his epic form in the IPL 2023 and domestic form in the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane was able to play again in International test cricket after a hiatus of 1 and a half months. He played really well in the WTC Final against Australia becoming the first Indian batsman to score a 50 in the WTC Final. Due to his exceptional performance in the final, Rahane was named as the vice-captain for the Indian team for the tour of the West Indies.

13.) After Sarfaraz’s Exclusion From The Test Squad, BCCI Receives Criticism From Gavaskar

After India’s squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies was announced, the BCCI and the selection committee received criticism from Sunil Gavaskar. He criticized the selection panel for excluding Sarfaraz Khan as he had a great domestic season and averaged above 100.

14.) The Catch That Wasn’t: Green’s Controversial Catch Which Dismissed Shubman Gill

In the WTC Final 2023 at the Oval, India needed to chase a total of 480 in the final innings to win the match. The opener, Shubman Gill played some shots and was looking in form when he got out to a ball off Boland. However, the catch taken by Cameron Green was a decision that raised many eyebrows and even the integrity of the third umpire was questioned. When looked in slow-mo it looks like the ball touched the ground, however, after several replays, the umpires still upheld the decision of out.

After a thrilling end to the first Ashes match at Edgbaston, Australia finally won by 2 wickets. The much anticipated Ashes series of 2023 has gotten off to a good start for the Aussies as they take a 1-0 lead in the series.

16.) Arshin Kulkarni: All-Rounder Who Has Become A Sensation In The MPL

In a match between Eagle Nashik Titans and Puneri Bappa in the ongoing Maharashtra Premier League(MPL), Arshin Kulkarni an under-19 all-rounder from Solapur played spectacularly. Opening the innings for the Titans, he scored a century and hit 117 runs off just 54 balls! Not just that in the second innings, he took a 4-fer and won his team a narrow victory.

17.) Taskin Ahmed Celebrates Too Early

In a test match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh, Bangladesh were winning quite comfortably. With just 1 wicket left to finish the proceedings, Raskin Ahmed bowls and gets the last batter out. Taskin Ahmed celebrates However, the batter, Zahir Khan takes a DRS review and is given not out.

 

18.) Zimbabwe Obliterate USA, Defeat Them By 304 Runs

In the group stage of the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers, Zimbabwe defeated the USA by 304 runs! This is the second-highest margin o victory in ODIs by runs. Zimbabwe batted first and Sean Williams’ knock of 174 runs helped them put on a huge total of 408.
