1. Barbarian
Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long, this film takes us through the journey of a young woman who arrives late at her Airbnb and finds someone else already living there. As facts get unfolded, the journey gets more fearsome. The film releases on August 31, 2022.
2. Three Thousand Years Of Longing
An adaptation of the story “The Djinn In The Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S Byatt, this film is a dark fantasy film directed by George Miller, starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on 20 May 2022, and will release in theatres on 31 August 2022.
3. Realm Of Shadows
An anthology presented as a full-length feature film, Realm of Shadows has the theme of horror, mystery, and several other dark elements intertwined. It is directed by Jimmy Drain, stars Tony Todd, Vernon Wells and Mel Novak, and is set to release on 30 August 2022.
4. The Invitation
A woman is brought into the folds of romance and marriage, only to realise that there is something sinister at work under the covers. Directed by Jessica Thompson, the film stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Thomas Doherty, Stephanie Corneliussen, and releases on August 26.
5. Beast
A survival thriller directed by Baltasar Kormakur, Beast is based on a story by J. P Sullivan. A widowed man returns to South Africa with his teenage daughters, to the place where he met his wife first. However, things take a turn when a ferocious lion begins attacking anyone in its path. The film releases on 19 August 2022.
6. Manbaby
Written and directed by Tim Lightell, this comedy film has a somewhat absurd premise – a man acts like a baby to demonstrate the joys of motherhood to his wife who is dead against having kids. Watch this film from the 17th of August.
7. Fall
Directed and co-written by Scott Mann, this thriller has two best friends who find themselves on top of a 2,000-feet tall radio tower. What follows is for you to find out when the film hits the theatres on 12 August, 2022.
8. Bullet Train
This action film boasts a star cast with Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock, and Joey King among the main actors. The film is set in a bullet train where a bunch of assassins finds out they have linked motives. The film releases on 5 August.
9. They/Them
Just because Pride month has ended doesn’t mean the conversation surrounding Pride does, too. This film is set at a gay conversion camp and shows the empowerment of queer individuals through their struggles. The film releases on 5 August 2022.
10. Easter Sunday
Starring Jo Koy, Tina Carrere, and Jimmy Yang, among others, this film shows the protagonist, an actor, comedian, and single father, returning to celebrate Easter with his Filipino American family. The film, directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, is set to release on 5 August, 2022.
11. Allegoria
Directed by Spider One, this film promises to push you to the edge, with a premise sure to give you the creeps. A group of artists gather, and eventually, their darkest insecurities manifest monsters, darkness and death. The film is expected to release on 1 August 2022.
12. Bodies Bodies Bodies
Directed by Halina Reijn, this film is a black comedy starring Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova and Lee Pace among others. The film is set at a house party where things take a dark turn when a game turns fatal. The film releases on 5 August.
13. Day Shift
A father who wants to carve out a good life for his young daughter, maintains his pool cleaning job as a front for his real occupation. Directed by J.J Perry, the film stars Jamie Foxx, Steve Howey and Scott Adkins, and is set to release on 12 August 2022.
14. Three Minutes: A Lengthening
Written and directed by Bianca Stigter, this film is an exploration of the lives of Jewish citizens in Poland amid WW2. It is a documentary expected to release on 19 August.
15. Fear
Directed by Deon Taylor, this film is eerily similar to our present conditions – a getaway cum vacation is marred by the threat of a looming airborne disease. The film releases on 26 August.
16. I Love My Dad
An estranged father catfishes his son in an attempt to reconnect with him. The film is directed by James Morosini, and will be released on August 5.
17. Mack & Rita
A woman walks into a regression pod, which transforms her from a 30-year-old into a sexagenarian. The film is expected to release on 12 August, and is directed by Katie Aselton.
18. The Drover’s Wife
Written, directed by and starring Leah Purcell, the film revolves around a bushwoman who perseveres to bring her children up all alone while her husband is away.
19. Samaritan
Samaritan is a superhero film directed by Julius Avery, starring Sylvester Stallone and Javon Walton. It revolves around a young boy who realises one day that he is born a superhero. The film releases on August 26 on Amazon Prime Video.
